A lot of us have revived nasty comments on our rings that really hurt, or pissed us off. Now I want to hear your stories about unexpected complements you’ve received that just made your day. Something that made you feel excited all over again about your ring—maybe even made you like it more. Bonus points if you post a picture of your ring too. I’ll go first:
For me, it was when I offhandedly showed my ring to a coworker that I wasn’t particularly close to. He immediately gushed about how awesome it was, that my Fiance and I went with something other than a diamond (no offense to diamonds of course), and that obviously, every woman should have a say on what their ring should look like. He then proceeded to ask me a million questions about the gemstone (natural alexandrite), to which I happily delved into. When that topic was exhausted, he ended our talk by telling me that my ring was a one of a kind creaction that most women would never get a chance to experience, and that it suited me perfectly. It was so unexpected, and came from someone that wasn’t just going through the motions of of expected ring reaction etiquette, he meant it. I couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the day, and still think of it from time to time.

Aw, what a cute thread idea! Not too long after I was engaged, a woman in a store started asking me questions about my ring and then exclaimed, “That is my dream ring!!!” It was so great, lol.

I get lots of compliments on my ring, and don’t think I’ve had any nasty comments.
One of my favs was at a wedding show, I was talking to a prospective photographer. She spots my ring (which was super sparkly in that light) and says “amazing ring! You designed it didn’t you?! Guys just don’t get it.” I did choose my ring, and the stone, so she was proud of guessing correctly.

People on a daily basis tell me how beautiful and sparkly my ring is. While I agree, it’s nice to hear, as I tend to think it’s rather plain.
Here’s my most recent picture after getting it back from the jewelers

I love this idea!
Since I have a morganite and a pear, I hear a lot of comments about people loving that we went with something “so different!”.
On valentine’s day of this year, a woman at Starbucks came accross the coffee shop to tell me how much she loved my ring and just how gorgeous it was. She asked about the gemstone, and loved the size. She thought we were so smart for spending less as well as getting more finger coverage. She said her and her husband had spent a fortune on her diamond, and she has upgraded twice since then. She was just so complimentary of our choice, and it was so kind coming from a stranger. She wished us a beautiful wedding and marriage. I felt like I glowed the rest of the day from her kindness!

We were in a basic modern jewelry store looking for natural emeralds – they had a few but nothing too interesting to me. The sales person started trying to show us some options then saw my hand and yelled omg I LOVE your rings! She then started asking me about my rings – where I got them, what they were and how I chose them, ect. instead of trying to sell us what they had! She was totally distracted (which was fine because I didn’t like what they had anyway) We thanked her for her “help” and told her we would keep looking and as we were leaving she called out “be sure to stop by and show me what you get!” I tend to like vintage and antique styles and modern jewelry stores generally don’t suit me… I guess maybe they don’t really suit her either! Lol I 🙂

DH’s best friend asked to see my e-ring while the three of us were talking, and in bro fashion, he was, like, “Good job, man.” It was very cute.

Over Memorial Day weekend my older sister’s life long best friend came in from out of state to visit for the holiday. She brought her boyfriend of about 2 years with her. They just recently moved in together and are talking about marriage and beginning to look at rings. My sister told her to take a look at my new ring and when she did she said to her boyfriend ” Oh my god!!, come here! I want something exactly like this!” She then asked if she could take some pictures of it and if I minded that she use my ring as inspiration for hers and I of course said yes. This really meant alot to me because she is one of the most fashionable and trendy people I know. After all imitation is the highest form of flattery 🙂

“Guys just don’t get it.” Priceless. I never understood those guys (or gals) that don’t pay any attention to what thier significant other likes, especially when picking out something just for them.
I’ll never forget my old roomate’s previous fiancée—one of the least thoughtful people I have ever met. He had been completemy self absorbed since I knew him, but they had recently gotten back together, and proposed freshly out of army base camp.
Considering that I believe in second chances, I tried to keep an open mind. When he was over at our apartment one night, I made a point to tell him what an amazing job I thought he did, picking out her ring. This was in front of her mind you.
His response: “Yea? I just grabbed the cheapest one I could find.” No. Thought. At. All. Needless to say, it didn’t last.

I’ve had a lady grab my hand and ask me if it was Tiffany and said my centre stone must be at least 1ct. I kind of giggled to myself since it doesnt look anything like a Tiffany ring and my centre is only .6, but it made me feel really good.

I’m not engaged yet but we got the ring already. Best compliment was from my cousin.
She said, “it twinkled under the sun”
Made me smile 🙂

She was right, your ring is absolutely gorgeous! It feels like so much more of a compliment when it comes from a stranger, especially one who already has an engagement ring of thier own! I adore the pictures you posted with the coffee too!

I was at the dentist and the receptionist checking me in caught sight of my ring and told me that my ring was “incredible” and that I was very lucky. I thanked her and went in to see my dentist. Afterwards, I stopped at her desk again to pay and there were two hygenists standing behind her with smiles on their faces. The receptionist laughed and told me that they wanted to see my diamond too!
They were so sweet and gushed for a minute over my diamond before running back to work. It was fun to find out people were gossiping about me in a positive way.
