EDIT: Crap. I thought I was in Dress. Can this be moved to Dress?
What do you think of possibly wearing a prom dress in order to get the type of color I want? Would that be totally crazy? I’m in love with this one:
It has the same shape that I am going for that seems to look fantastic on me. Just have to find a Davids Bridal that carries it for me to try on. Anyway, would wearing a tasteful, very formal prom dress be totally insane or do you think I could get away with it?

I like the lines of it! The thing that gives me pause about a prom dress is that they are often of much lower quality fabric and beading. It’s hard to tell from the picture, of course, but it looks like the skirt might be a stiff lower quality fabric.
Have you tried looking at evening wear designed for an adult? Like at Nordstrom?

@crayfish: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Strapless-Beaded-Ball-Gown-DB027W_Special-Occasions-Shop-By-Occasion-Formal-Long-Dresses There’s the link, maybe the picture is more clear there.
And no I haven’t checked other stores for adult evening wear, but I think I might.

I think its a great idea. I would definitely buy a prom dress to wear as a wedding dress – what does it matter what its ‘classified’ as? The word wedding lets the designers/stores ramp up the price.

I think it sounds like a wonderful idea!

My aunt’s friend wore a white prom dress that she found on clearance. If it makes you happy, go for it.

Not crazy at all, you’ll get the color you want and not spend a fortune. Win win!

I found a DB that carries it and I’m trying it on tomorrow!!! WOOHOOOO!

Girl you can get away with whatever you want on your wedding day. It’s a beautiful dress!

I think it looks wedding enough plus, it is your day- wear whatever you love! I’ll be looking for pics of you in it after your appointment today!

I’m wearing one 😉 I say go for it.

I’m crazy excited to see it tomorrow! I’ll definitely post pics. I’m thinking of getting it as a reception dress and getting a white traditional gown for the ceremony.

I don’t see a problem with it (: If it means you’re getting the colour and design you want then go for it!

I have a friend whose cousin got a blue prom dress to wear as a wedding dress! It was STUNNING! I say go for it, unless you’re a very young bride. If you’re 18-22, someone (or everyone) might make snide comments about “getting to wear it twice”.
