You are not being bridezilla if you are giving them multiple options of dresses to choose from, whether it be from a bridal shop, Target or online. It’s your wedding, and really, the only thing a bridesmaid MUST do is wear the dress/fabric/colour the bride wants them to!

@SeeingDaisies:  I think you need to limit them some… Give them a fabric, color, and length… From there let them pick their own. So… silk, purple, and short. Or chiffon, malibu blue, and long. There needs to be some unity.

You’ve made it a bit complicated because you’ve already told them that you don’t care, as long as it is a dress in one of the wedding colors when the truth of the matter is that you do care more than you first let on. So your first order of business is to figure out for yourself exactly how much you care and what your parameters really are. This is your one change of mind, so use it well. Then you need to come clean with your bridesmaids that you do, in fact, want a bit more of a voice in their dress selection. Hopefully none of them have already purchased a dress based on your original loose guidance. Otherwise they may be stuck with something you’ve decided to nix. After that, and after you’ve smoothed any ruffled feathers, go ahead and send them a link to your showroom.

I tried the whole “pick a dress in x color” thing and it just didn’t work. No one knew where to look or what to look for, and they eventually just asked me for more direction, so I narrowed it down to x color, y fabric, from z place.

I’m a Bridesmaid or Best Man in my friends wedding, and this is what she initially said to us.. It didn’t work. Getting different but coordinating dresses is harder than you might think. I eventually found a Donna Morgan Bridesmaid or Best Man dress on SALE for like 65% off on Nordstrom in magically the right color, and now ALL of us are getting the same dress. There was another back up dress from Target that was the right color, but it honestly looked kind of weird and cheap being a satiny cotton next to the pretty chiffon Donna Morgan. So you definitely should at LEAST choose the same fabric. The bride’s dress is ALSO chiffon, so how their dresses will look next to yours might be something to consider as well, though I think it’s less important than unity with the BMs.

My sister is in a wedding and the bride gave them similar direction, because much like yourself she really wanted them to find something their style and the would be comfortable in.  None of the girls have bought anything yet because they are kind of overwhelmed and not sure where to go.  In light of that, I would say definitely send them out the link you found as a suggestion!  I’m sure they would just find it more helpful than anything else :).

I wouldn’t force it, I would suggest it. I think that you could just send them all a quick text or email and send them…

Hey ladies, not sure if you guys all found your dress for the wedding yet, but I came across the site and like some of these (and then post the link).

Then say like love you guys, thanks so much for all you’ve done so far.

I think people will actually probably really appreciate being given some guidance! Sounds like you’re not going to be pushy about it, and I know if it was me I’d feel kind of nervous that I was going to end up picking something that wouldn’t suit the wedding or the bride’s tastes.
