Don’t feed into social pressure to buy a home right this second. I’m 24 and some people I know from college have bought homes in the last few years (so ages 21-23) and for the most part I think it’ll come back to bite them. They’re all buying very small houses, or small beat-up condos – not something that they can live in for a long time or that has good resale value. They’re just buying so they can say they own a house.

ellyd23: thank you! I’m still walking around squealing with joy. My family keeps laughing at me because for over a month I’ve been doing this thing where I suddenly stop everything and squeal and wave my hands around and then get back to what I was doing or saying.😊

I was 26. I would not have been ready for that investment and responsibility in my early 20s.

UK bee. I bought my first house at 18, and have bought my second now (21) which we’re moving into in 2 weeks! 🙂

- Wedding: April 2017 - Hogarths, Solihull
I was 22, but only 3 days away from my 23rd Birthday. Fiance was 24.
We’re the only people in our friendship group who own a house. We were really lucky because we had a decent chunk of savings each, and the UK Government had a scheme for people buying new houses so we only needed a 5% deposit and we could have a 20% loan (free for 5 years) so we only had to mortgage 75%
Don’t feel pressured into buying yet. Rent for a while to find out what you actually want in a house 🙂

25 and Fiance was 24. Don’t be pressured by what family wants…it’s ultimately your decision and it’s a big one! You’ve got to do what’s right for you!

I was 27. I got a good paying job at 23 and saved up for those years in order to put down a good size down payment.

I’m 32 and Darling Husband is 34 and we wont be buying for at least another 3-4 years most likely. We live in the DC metro area where a 3bdrm can run you almost half a million and we live (on purpse) in an area with great schools which makes it that much worse. Darling Husband is starting grad school this year to go into an entirely new career and i’m just now going back to school for my bachelors. I also have a son who’s going into HS next year and I’d really prefer not to buy until he’s done as to not have to worry about switching him out of his school so we’re waiting out of need and want. Everyone’s timeline is different I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It is hard esp when most of our friends have already bought and som are buying their third and even fourth homes but we have our own path to follow and so do you and yours.

We were both 26. There is no specific age that you need to own your own home by! Don’t stress.
