I had just turned 22 and then boyfriend was 23. Outside of Denver. We messed up and bought a bigger house than we’ll ever need. Eventually we’ll sell this because we have empty rooms we don’t use, so make sure you don’t get too caught up in size.

Sheesh louis, I can’t imagine knowing anyone buying their first home in their early twenties, that seems insane to me! Only one of my friends has her own home, and technically it’s actually her boyfriend’s whose in his early 30’s. Everyone else I know rents.

My husband and I are aggresively saving now, but even so we figure it’ll stay take a few more years before we’ll have enough. We’ll probably be around 30. I wish it could be sooner 🙁

My fiance and I bought our first house when I was 25 and he was 26, right after we both graduated and took jobs in a new city together.

I was 25 and he was 27, this was about a year ago. We bought a condo in one of the most expensive cities for home ownership in North America.

My Fiance and I bought our house when I was 21, and he was 24. Earlier then most people and we had a 20% down payment.

If I wasn’t with my Fiance I wouldn’t have bought a house until I knew what I wanted from life. Did I want to be close to my parents, friends, or I would have probably still been open to moving for a job. I wouldnt have bought a place unless I was completely settled or getting ready to settle down, which we were at that point.

22 is young (don’t know anyone who had a house that young)!!  I was 28 and my husband 29, and we are among the first to get a house- and that is only because we had help from my inlaws.  Most wait until well into their 30s or even beyond.  Real estate is quite expensive where I am from, so it is really difficult to save up the downpayment.

We live in the Bay Area which is one of the craziest housing markets in the USA, so this might skew things… but DH bought a condo at age 28, which he sold at age 38. We are finally closing on a real house… I’m 33 and he’s 43.

I was 24; Fiance 26. We bought a three bedroom in our city, put down 20% and live flatmate free.  In our area we were young at that age, not many of our friends own houses!

Don’t stress there is PLENTY of time to buy a house.

I’m 31 and in the process now. I think we’re pretty much average both for our social group and the area in general. I don’t really know anyone who bought a house at 22, except one guy who saved all his money since high school and never had a day of fun in his life!

Hubby and I are the same age. We Brought our first home at 25 then our second home at 27. We kept our first house as a rental so that we can have income for retirement etc etc. we used about 10% of our deposit for our first house and kept the rest to renovate, then for our second house we used the equity and reevaluation and savings. 22 is young to buy a house, don’t stress in a few yrs you’ll be home owners 🙂

I was 30 and husband was 28.  We only know 2 or 3 other couples that own their home- everyone rents here.
