I have 150 gold plastic charger plates; never used. Long story.
I had planned on using them in the wedding. Especially since our colors are mint, lavendar, periwinkle, and gold, I thought this would be a no-brainer.
Until I realized there’s one problem: Silverware.
Our caterer says most of her brides use these plastic forks that look exactly like the real thing, rather than renting. The rest opt for their stock of stainless steel standard caterer’s flatware. Neither of these, obviously, is gold, and there is no silver in the wedding. I don’t really WANT to incorporate silver if I can help it. But I also don’t want to buy all new charger plates, or not use chargers at all. And anyway, the silver counterparts to the gold ones I already have are much cheaper looking and not nearly as nice for whatever reason.
Ideally, I could find some of the plastic silverware that looks completely real in gold, but after searching a few places, I am pretty sure that doesn’t exist. I’d rather use silver real metal flatware than the “gold” plastic you can find at places like Party Galaxy, but I am worried it is going to look janky. And renting gold flatware, let alone buying it, I imagine is going to be $$$. And even then, the color of gold might not be anywhere near what the charger plates are. If I am going to spend that kind of money, I want it to MATCH, damnit!
Anyone have any ideas?

Spray paint makes things match quite well.

@StuporDuck: True, but spraypainting silverware seems a little……unethical. 😀
I guess I could paint the chargers themselves some color besides silver. I kind of like them gold, but I am not sure it’s worth the pain in the butt trying to resolve the silverware situation around them. I could just paint them mint green, and no one would expect the silverware to match. Hm…

You could sell them to me!
Im planning on having gold in my wedding colours too.
However I don’t think silverware would clash THAT much…

@EffieTrinket: I’m looking to buy gold chargers after someone has used them too! I think that gold chargers are really popular, and easily sellable afterwards!

@EffieTrinket: You really shouldn’t be painting plates, even if they’re chargers. I guess you could look in charity shops and stuff for gold flatware and just have mismatched ones? I don’t know…

@EffieTrinket: It is perfectly normal and common place to have silverware (or stainless ) cutlery used with any color of chargers and china. It doesn`t matter that silver is not one of your wedding colors. People expect to see silverware, no matter what the color scheme.
I would much rather have real stainless than plastic gold cutlery.

I also don’t think it will be too much of a mismatch…or can you find napkins with gold to wrap the silverware in?

@julies1949: I totally agree. If I ever attended a wedding that had gold as a colour, it wouldn’t even occur to me that the colour scheme would translate to the silverware.

I agree with PPs – stick with the silverware and gold plates. I don’t think it will look odd at all.

I guess it doesn’t look that bad. I am probably just being overly perfectionistic, but it just seemed like there would be a perfect way to do this if I just thought hard enough. Maybe I ought to let it go, though. It’s probably not worth stressing over. I just don’t want to ruin the look of the table, because then the table pictures might look tacky. I realize that that is so not the point, and all.
But if anyone thinks of anything, please let me know!

@EffieTrinket: if you decide you don’t want them, sell them to me! Seriously, shoot me a message with your price!

You are over thinking it. No one expects silverware to be a color other than silver.

I will be selling them after the wedding, but the wedding isn’t until March 15th of next year. I am thinking that will be too late, but I was able to find them on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond after Christmas. I think they only ended up being like $1.50 or so apiece? And they have the little beady detail on the border.
I know I have seen some at Dollar Tree, too, but they didn’t seem to be as nice. If you’re not too picky, though, it could be an option!
