@mrsdrrose612:  Fiance and I were just talking about this! We’ll be married in January but wanted to start this first christmas together beginning new traditions. We’ve decided that every year we will trade tree ornaments. Seems simple enough and affordable. We both love antiques and I suspect we will both attempt to wow the other with our finds, vs. the quickie Hallmark shop purchase.

Our families are local, so our Christmas day is filled with going around town to our parents’ houses eating ourselves silly alllll day long.  So, when we first started dating, we made sure to have our own Christmas celebration and exchange gifts on Christmas Eve instead.  We drive around and look at lights, have a nice romantic dinner, and do our gifts before the hustle & bustle of the holida takes over with our families!

What about ice skating? Or decorating a gingerbread house?

The most meaningful thing we do is sponsoring a family for Christmas. If you can’t afford to do that you could buy some socks and gloves for a homeless person or participate in a local Christmas Bureau by buying a single gift for an individual less fortunate than ourslves.

You could also do Random Acts of Christmas kindness- buy a coffee for someone, plug parking meters, volunteer to wrap Christmas gifts etc.

We are going to visit the house from A Christmas Story!  I can’t wait! haha.  We are also going to start buying a new ornament each year for our tree.

@julies1949-I love the random acts of kindness idea!  There are a lot of homeless people out by the theatre my husband works at.  I am going to have to figure out something nice to do for them, especially the ones we see on a regular basis.

The place where we had our wedding is a historic stone mansion with expansive gardens, and during Christmas time, they cover the whole place in amazing lights. We plan to go back and see it with some family and take some photos. Does your venue, the place you got engaged, or any other place meaningful to you decorate for Christmas so you could go back and see it?

If not, you could always recreate your first date, go to the place he proposed, or visit other meaningful places and make Christmas time the time to relive that memory, since it’s a good season for those warm fuzzy feelings.

We haven’t had snow by me for the last few Decembers, but I’d love to do a Christmas Sleigh Ride.  A few local farm around here have them.
