Never having been really interested in perfume before, I recently began checking out the fragrance scene. And then I noticed comments like “everyone and their mother wears this” to a lot of scents. I don’t work around a lot of women nor see family a lot so I have absolutely no idea what people are using. Do you have any fragrances you think are really common or overused? Do people tend to wear perfume to the office a lot? (are they all wearing the same scents??) Can you tell what other people on the elevator are wearing? (I don’t remember ever getting on an elevator anywhere and noticing anyone’s perfume, let alone recognize it. Except the people who drown in perfume to the point where it hurts MY head lol)

The only one I can think of is the new seasonal scent from bath and body works, called one thousand wishes. Either there are a few women in my office that have it, or it smells like another perfume. The only reason I noticed is because my sister bought it for me and it’s fairly distinct (very sweet).
If you don’t want to smell like everyone else, skip the classics (Chanel, Estee Lauder, Calvin Klein, etc) and go for something more unusual like Jimmy Choo. He has a newer scent, can’t remember the name, but it comes in an orange bottle, and I’ve never heard of or smelled anyone wearing it.
Most people won’t notice if you wear the same perfume as someone else unless they are a connoisseur or happen to be familiar with that particular scent.

Lady million. I walk past so many people in shopping centres wearing it. I have it but I don’t wear it because I dislike the smell. I also walk past a lot of people wearing Chloe & Flora. In the working world however, no one smells like anything. It’s just in the shops, really.

I wear a simple vanilla perfume from the body shop and have for probably 12 years. It’s not too perfume-like and my Fiance likes it because I smell like baked goods :amused:
Hit the post button too soon!
I can never tell what other people around me are wearing unless it’s one I already define a friend / old friend by. My ex used to wear Armani Black Code or something like that and whenever I smell that I can identify the smell pretty quickly.

I can only recognize Chanel No.5 and Tosca from 50 feet away-but that is because I absolutely can’t stand those two smells! I do love CK one, and can also recognize it when someone wears it, but that is about it for my “smell recognition”. I love Jimmy Choo and Flowerbomb at the moment, but they are both evening smells. For the day I usually wear a perfume from Zara, but I don’t remember the name. I don’t really like any Bath and Body Works or Victoria’s Secret smells…they remind me a bit too much of high school;)
Oh, and I always notice immediately when my hubby is wearing “The Beat” from Burberry! Best smell ever!

Suzy133: Uh oh, I wear D & G light blue! I had no idea it was popular, I don’t think I know anyone else that wears it. Maybe that’s a regional thing.
The only ones that I’ve noticed that are super common are usually older women that commonly wear estee lauder or chanel.

the only perfume I can recognize is Angel by Theirry Mugler, because my best friend wears it. Anything else I’m clueless on.

Omg Chanel all the way! When I went to FIT every other girl in the room would have it on, it’s so strong and does NOT work on everyone. I just want to shake them, just because it’s chanel does not mean you Should rock it.

I have found several women in my office who wear Jessica Simpson Fancy– which isn’t a bad thing for me, I wear it, too! It has a sweet smell, which I prefer over anything to musky.
Another big one is the classic Burberry fragrance, which I also really like, but a little goes a long way.

Suzy133: pointed out, D&G Light Blue is pretty popular. I wear it, my mom wears it, and my step sister wears it. I love it though, it’s been my main scent since 2008 (so it’s probably time for a change!).

Kayla0416: I think light blue is the one that I keep seeing referred to as super common over and over again… Must be everywhere going by what people say! 😉
I don’t care much about using common perfume because like I said, there’s not a lot of people around me who would even realize what it is! I’m just curious about people’s actual experiences.
BWLE: I’m assuming that FIT is a gym…? Don’t tell me people wear No.5 to the gym?? I guess it’s inevitable if you put it on in the morning and it’s long lasting but still, I see No5 as way too heavy for daily/office use.
