Have not gotten married yet but here is the list my friend gave me of stuff that could of been avoided on her day

Double check with your ceremony location about where you are getting ready if you are getting ready on site. The church that my friend got married at last year; the pastor told her during the rehersal that she could leave her dress in the bible school room down stairs because thats were she would be getting ready and told the bridesmaids to leave our dresses downstairs as well. The day of they had a bingo party going on downstairs that the pastor had forgot about and her veil went missing and her dress was hanging up right behind a punch bowl, her dress bag got punch on it but thankfully her dress was safe and it took me and another maid up almost two hours to track down her veil. Which resulted in us not being able to do the hair style that the bride wanted us to do for our hair.

Also if your venue has decorations up for another reason (such as christmas) and you do not want them up, ask and double check that they are taken down before your rehersal, again, my friends wedding was just before valentines day. and EVERY picture she has from her ceremony site has a christmas tree in the background.

Have a list of shots available for your photographer so you get the photos you want and if you have your bridesmaids in short dresses and want them wearing shoes in the photos, tell your photographer not to take any photos if the girls kick their shoes off. Again, same wedding the maid that helped me track down the veil took her heels off because they hurt her feet, she is short so she was in the front of the group photos. The bride will not display any photos of her with her bridesmaids or her entire party because the girls barefeet are visable and she can not crop them out without cropping out the flower girl.

Make sure you inform the DJ of all “games” and specific songs you want. and for the garter/bouqet toss, if you only want 18+ people on the floor during that, make sure he announces it. Again same wedding, a 10 year old caught the garter. Nobody tried to catch the bouqet.

Let your DJ know whether or not he is allowed to drink at the reception. Drunk DJ’s can kill a party pretty quickly.

Arrange for a box of food + cake from your reception to be packed up and sent with you when you leave or put in your hotel room. We ended up having to make a taco bell run for the bride when her and her husband left the reception because she had not gotten a chance to eat at the reception.

@MommaJenn28:  lol..it did, luckily we were able to get an appointment that next weekend. However, I was sick as a dog that day & wished I was able to enjoy the whole process more. We ended up picking an Oreo cake!

Prepare a photo shot list. I did not have one. The Mother-In-Law got upset that we missed a couple certain group shots that she wanted at the church. We had to get the group back together at the reception.

We forgot to print the seating chart and had to do it last minute.  Also, this wasn’t really our job but the coordinators in house and hired and caterer all forgot to set out plates for the cake cutting.  So we had to put the cake right into our hands.  Another…not our job…it was in our contract that a plate of food would be wrapped and put in our room but they forgot :/
