Did you get him a present this year?
I wonder, what is the best present you’ve ever given your dad that he appreciated?
My idea was to give him something he can use on my wedding day … what would that be? Hmm.

This year my sister and I are making tool-shaped sugar cookies (like these ones here: http://www.alphamom.com/holiday/fathers_day_gift_basket.png). I also got into my FMIL’s craft supplies to make him a card, and am trying to encourage my sister to do the same. =) I’m also planning on dressing up the basket we got to look like a toolbox!
I have no idea which present he appreciated most over the years. We didn’t start getting him more than a card until recently.

Oh, goodness. My dad is SO tough to buy for. You can’t buy him anything he can buy himself. Which makes it impossible. At least this year i’ve been working for a year so I have some money! Usually I’d make him and mom dinner or get him a GC to Bass Pro. My dad is really practical by the way. But i was also in college and he’d get mad at me if i spent too much, too! It was always lose-lose, haha.
Since father’s day is Sunday, i bought his gift awhile ago. I wasn’t about to let my wedding let me forget dad’s day! I got him guava rum and peach-mango rum. He LOVES exotic rums, and since he lives in a small town of 500 people and the liquor store is actually Wal-Mart, he definitely cannot get these where he lives.
I think he’ll really appreciate it. He’s sort of a rum afficionado and he lives on the lake.
We stopped making a huge deal about fathers day/mothers day since my brother died last year though. I do JUST enough so they feel appreciated, but not enough that I cause them both too much heartache.
I’m thinking about getting him Phantom of the Opera tickets for his birthday in August though. He may not let me spend $160 on him though and since my mom’s bday is in October, he might want to take her for her birthday.
