@lauraminn: I wish I could tell you.. but I’ve never had a shellac or gel manicure! lol My first will be for my wedding.. but I have several friends who get them regularly, and I’ve never heard of them having that problem! But I know I’ll be doing shellac, not gel.. so maybe there is a difference. Sorry I wasn’t any help!

I’m torn on this as well. On the one hand, I paint my own nails all the damn time and do a pretty darned good job of it, so why spend the money (my nails grow long, strong, and pretty naturally – they’re my favorite feature and I try to play them up”)? On the other hand, the relaxation that comes with having someone else take care of them for me would be amazing. Plus then I would worry much less about messing them up myself.
If I do them at home, I’ll probably do some sort of neutral (like OPI’s “So many clowns, so little time). If I get them done professionally, I’ll go for a french manicure (and definitely no fake nails!!!! What if one of them broke off on the wedding day?? Ew.)

@Sevyn: Go to a salon! They do such a good job cleaning up your cuticles!
I am going to get shellac… it isn’t a fake nail, just lasts for 2 weeks!

I hate fake nails too but I’m definitely going to the salon! I’m terrible at doing my own nails and I want something that will last through the honeymoon so I’m doing a gel mani too…probably pale pink. And something bright on my toes. If there’s ever a time to pamper yourself it’s before your wedding!

I will be hitting up the salon. I plan on getting a shellac French mani and fun, bright toes for our tropical honeymoon!

I’ll be getting a gel manicure at the salon in a pale pink color (my dress is ivory as well).

I went to a salon and got a gel manicure. It was my first time and I loved it! I got a deep red color since I had deep red roses for my bouquet. The manicure lasted two weeks or so even through the honeymoon so it was worth it.

Will be going to a salon, no fake nails, no french tips<<my aunt just died a little!
This is what I want…but also in ivory dress friendly colors. I actually found the glitter polish that I want called China Glace (sand in my swinsuit or something) I think it’s the fourth nail in the second picture…I had to order it online…and it definitely won’t be that thick of a cover 🙂

I’ll be going to a salon and getting a gel manicure too. I hate fake nails too, and a gel manicure is the best thing ever! Especially if you don’t get them done often, because it lasts a long time.

I’ll probably just get a normal manicure. I’m pretty good at painting my own nails (and get awfully impatient whenever I’m at the salon) but I’m terrible at all the cuticle stuff. I’m considering maybe a soft dove grey for tips (maybe Ulta’s Earl Grey, or Essie’s Chinchilly) and a vampy dark shade for toes.

@lauraminn: I don’t know… The salon I usually go to uses Gelish brand and I’ve definitely not had a problem with weaker nails afterwards. But my nails are weak to begin with, so shellac helps keep them from splitting at least. Acrylics on the other hand? I’ve had them twice in my life and both times they chewed up my nails something awful.

I’ll go to a salon the day before the wedding and get a gel french manicure done. No tips or anything. I never have my nails done at a salon, always do them myself because my nails are so nice naturally but I want them to look their best for our wedding!

I saw these from Essie and think I might give it a try “Embrace the Lace”
It’s that applique thing and I used Sally Hansen’s and it lasted about a week. Here’s the link- it’s less shiny than this pic IRL http://www.essie.com/shop/embrace-the-lace-p-479.html
