I need ideas. My Darling Husband is hard to shop for! It’s not that we have everything – we’re pretty hard up, actually, and have set a $50 limit each for ourselves this year – but he just never expresses desires for anything! I’m always saying “oh man, I wish I had X or Y or Z” but he never says stuff like that. -_-
I’d rather not do my default and get him a cute business shirt/tie/socks combo, because I’ve done that a couple of times in the past and he’s got several nice combos. In years past, I’ve gotten him that, DVD’s, a scarf, cuff links, I got scuba certified for him (he’s an avid diver), a scrapbook, an engraved money clip, North Face gloves…
He is a huge soccer buff (did Olympic Development as a teen), just passed the Bar exam, but is currently working at a gym. I thought about getting him a gavel, but he isn’t necessarily going to be a judge, and I’m anti-knick-knack. I’m planning on trying to get him into rock climbing, which is something I’m really into, but I don’t want to buy him gear before I’m sure he likes it.
So ladies. Give me some ideas! What are you planning to get your DH/FI/SO for the holidays this year??

@TwoStatesBride: Ugh, I wish I knew! I have noooooo idea.
Maybe you could buy him a rock-climbing adventure package or something like that? I don’t know, I don’t know how physical activity works, hahahaha. However, thanks for that great idea to get him work clothes. He could use some more pants/shirts. But that kills me, because I want to get him something he thoroughly enjoys and loves, ya know?
Last year I got my SO a signed football and a signed football jersey. You said he’s into soccer… what’s his favorite time/player? Maybe you could get him something like that?

@TwoStatesBride: Well, some little stuff I got him was a pair of sweat pants and some snacks for his stocking. He wants a winter jacket, loves iTunes, and also would like a yellow tie (and a suit jacket), so I might grab then all. Usually my gifts to him are always kick ass, but this year I’ve been a bit frugal. We spent money every weekend in October on trips and we are welcoming a child in April.
Had he not fixed his smoker, I would be getting him his dang smoker that is, like, a bajillion dollars.

@mrspinesol: his favorite team is Liverpool and his favorite player is Steven Gerrard. that’s a good idea, i could look into that. since the world cup is next year i could get him something related to that as well…
i do indoor gym climbing, so there isn’t really a ‘package’ i could buy, per se.
is your SO into clothes or fashion? my Darling Husband really loves clothes and dressing sharp for work, so that’s one of the reasons i get him those things.

I just got him a vibrating alarm clock to wear on his arm at night. He SUCKS at waking up in the morning, and i heard this is helpful
I also got him a “phlipadelphia” tshirt from our favorite show It’s always sunny in Philadelphia 🙂

- Wedding: November 2013 - St. Augustine Beach, FL
We live in Orlando and we recently agreed to go on a trip or try to spend quality time together for gifts rather than buying each other physical gifts. This year we agreed to buy annual passes to Universal Studios. We have both talked about it for a while but with the wedding we really didn’t have the extra cash to justify spending it on passes. It will give us an excuse to drop everything a few days during the year to spend a fun day together riding roller coasters and drinking Butter Beer while eating a Krusty burger.
Last year we bought practical gifts that we needed for cheap on Black Friday. I bought us a 40″ flat screen TV for our new apartment and he bought us a new laptop to replace the one that finally died. The year before we went to St. Augustine for a weekend in a B&B.

@megz06: 1) congrats!
2) i feel you on being frugal. we were just married a month ago and are focusing on saving for a house and paying down debts. :/

Well its more than $50, but I got my Darling Husband the iPad Air. I wanted to get him the PS4, but I am not going to wait in line and then get punched in the face fighting over a video game console lol.
Then I got him a bunch of random clothing (he never buys himself clothes). I need to get a couple more things though, but I’m really having a hard time coming up with stuff this year.
I’m really anti-knick-knack, too. The gavel would be so cute if your Darling Husband were going to become a judge (that takes years of practicing law first though, right?)!
My Darling Husband LOVES stuff from Duluth Trading Co. (I don’t think they actually have physical stores, just a website). They have clothing and a bunch of ‘manly’ things hahaha. I got him a firehose jacket and he is obsessed with it.

@TwoStatesBride: Some of my ideas are the Batman game for the 360, he lost his favorite travel mug last month so I’ll get him another of those, he needs socks (boring, I know), and an ornament of Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark (his favorite Indy movie). That’s all I got right now.

@memo: OOH BIG BANG THEORY GEAR. YESSS you just gave me a great idea.
@beachbride1216: a trip is a great idea, if we weren’t on such a tight budget! practical things are smart too, but, since we just got married we have SO MUCH CRAP in our tiny apartment and we’re out of room! lol!
@adoc86: yes, years. and his mom is a giant hoarder/knick-knack fiend so i always feel like i have to offset that by not buying him ANY knick knacks. -_- i’ll totally look at that website, thanks!

@springbride23: yeah see i’d buy him a game, but we have the crappiest gaming system ever in the history of man (the wii) so there arent any really good games out for it. whomp whomp.

@TwoStatesBride: a plane ticket so he can go home and visit his family for 9 days next month just before Christmas 🙂
He gets pretty homesick & I was able to get a great deal. Seemed like a better gift than the new TV I was originally going to get.

@MsGinkgo: aw, so sweet!
we are actually spending several hundred on prints/canvasses/albums of our wedding photos, so we’re counting those as gifts to each other as well – that’s why our ‘gift budget’ is so low. maybe i should have mentioned that.

We moved into our house this past summer and things are still a bit unorganized. To make sure that he has a spot of his own, I got him a 32 inch tv and I’m getting him a Eagles gaming chair (his fav football team) so that he can have his own mancave. I really want him to have his own space where he can go be a guy. It’s a plus for me too, this way video games will never dominate any tv that I would be watching 😉

@TwoStatesBride: haha, he is not! I think he’d like to be because he thinks I want him to be, he just doesn’t have the patience for it. Not to mention, he gets frustrated when he thinks he’s picked out a good outfit, but he hasn’t. 😛
