We are not getting them gifts. I did get my dad some cufflinks for Christmas that had our photo when I was little in one side and the other says “Daddy’s Little Girl” (kinda cheesy but I knew he would love them).

Is getting parents a gift a standard thing?

I’m getting my mother a pandora bracelet to match the one that my sister and I will be wearing.  I might make my Future Mother-In-Law one too but I am undecided about that.  And i have no idea about the fathers.

I believe that we are going to get all the parent’s nice photo frames with picture IOUs. This way they have a nice frame for a wedding picture of us (bride, groom, and appropriate parents) taken at the wedding once they given to us after the wedding.  His parents are still married, and my parents are divorced.  We will buy nice prints for them.  We are going to give them to the parents at the rehersal dinner.

Nothing but a toast thanking them for raising us! But they’re also not contributing financially…

Do you have to get them gifts if you are paying for the wedding?

I think I’m getting them the embroidered handkerchiefs, and also IOUs for a nice framed wedding photo.

i think gifts are traditional regardless of wedding funding. They did raise you, after all… Doesn’t have to be anything fancy or expensive.

I think we’re going to get both sets of parents a nice flower or bush for their gardens. I’m hoping it’s something they can enjoy for many years and will always remind them of our wedding day 🙂

@jaim1104:  I’m glad you started this thread! I need to start thinking about this. Originally, my gift was going to be the wedding album, but that won’t come until much later, so I need to find something to give them beforehand.

I am giving my dad an embroidered handkerchief I bought on Etsy, but am still undecided about my mom and the future in-laws.

We gave each of them a handkerchief (matching floral ones for the moms, monogrammed for my Father-In-Law that matched the one I bought for my DH), and I’ve bought them albums of the wedding. We gave it to them at the rehearsal dinner when we gave out wedding party gifts.

We are also getting them nice picture frames with an IOU.  Then after the wedding we’ll get them prints for the frame and shutterfly books of pictures for them.

I plan on getting my mother a gift certificate for a facial (I know she will LOVE IT!!!) and my FI’s stepmom participated in helping me out with wedding stuff and supported us. I got her and his dad champagne glasses (nothing special just a set) and I’m also planning on getting her a gift certificate for a facial as well… I’m also doing this for my Maid/Matron of Honor and that’s it. His mother and I do not get along and she has been nothing short of a headache since the wedding planning process has began. I told him he needed to get her something because she ain’t getting sh*t from me. He doesn’t want to get her anything and he doesn’t want to do a mother/son dance either but I’m sure she’s going to make it seem like it’s my fault and pull the trigger on on me (figure of speech!!).
