My mom loves to read outside in the shade during spring/summer, so I got my parents a portable hammock (along with a book for my dad that I happened upon). My FI’s parents have a hot tub, so we got them a floating, waterproof radio.
Do your parent’s like to work out? My mom likes to jog when it’s nice out, so I got her an ipod shuffle one year – my parents never think about “new” gadgets like that for themselves.

@LadyBear: both of my parents walk a ton! through all seasons…they both are recently retired..in their mid 50s so they’re young too( at least I think lol) for being retired so I’m trying to get them something fun they can do together. Thanks for the help!

I got my mom at perfume set and my father is obsessed with ice coffee, so I got him this special travel mug that will keep the coffee cold and I will probably get some coffee and a gift certificate.

My mom likes clothes, so I bought her a casual dress she wanted. She’s also been talking about getting all these crazy facials before the wedding so I got her a fancy skin cream from Kiehl’s.
My mom also loves to get gift certs for her hair and nails, adn her favorite store, the Christmas Tree Shop. I didn’t do those this year though, but maybe it’s an idea for you.
I got my dad running shoes b/c he jogs a lot.
Got FI’s mom a kindle

I got them a fondue pot, which they asked for and pictures of Fiance and I.

Bought my mom the cutest coach purse ever. She has everything she wants and needs except a nice purse. She just won’t spend that kind of money on herself, even though she knows darn well she deserves it!

I’m getting them a nice gift basket from Hickory Farms. They love edible things, plus I know they will use it. A lot of other gifts would just sit around collecting dust.

My dad- he just wants CHAMPION/timberland sweatshirts and stuff like that… he’s so simple, but so hard to shop for at the same time. And we were looking into Cowboys jerseys.
FFIL- he wanted a mini keurig, since he’s the only one who really drinks coffee regularly in the house, so we went halvsies with Future Brother-In-Law. And we’re getting him the accessory that you can add your own coffee to.
FMIL- ugh. she’s so hard to shop for. She just says “get me a restaurant certificate” This year it’s to this italian place she’s been wanting to try a few towns over. I hate when people say “just get me this” it takes the surprise out! We’ll probably get her a new stock pot, too, though 🙂

We got my dad some golf shoes and a nice sweatshirt, and my mom a new hair straightener and a new bike seat for her bicycle. We got my Mother-In-Law a cashmere scarf and some perfume, and we got my Father-In-Law a scope for hunting deer lol. All of these gifts sound kind of rediculous, but they fit the receiver well. What do your parents do for fun? I find a gift certificate to a nice restaurant is always a good fallback.

I am getting my mom a Coach purse and my dad another bottle of cognac. Not sure which one yet.

I got my parents a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. That way, I know that I’m getting them a gift they will actually use, considering they go there almost every week.

I got my mom a 6 month Birch Box subscription. Basically they send you awesome beauty samples for in a box for just $10 a month.
And for my dad, I have no idea. He never asks for anything. I thought of something for his iPad or an experience like the richard petty driving experience (he’s a big car guy)… no clue. He would never ask for clothes, which is always my go-to.

my parents are pretty hard to buy for, so lately we’ve been giving them combined gifts and sending them to do something.
this year were sending them to a philly pops orchestra concert w/ a gift card to get lunch at a nice italian restaurant
