He asked for some money towards his NBA league pass and a bottle of cologne.

I’ll probably get him some sports related stuff for the baby once I know the gender.

We had originally put a $100 limit this year (in the past there really was none). The limit was 1. because we were looking for a house, would both rather save for that 2. got engaged and also just to save in general. We also had previously bought ourselves a few major things already (like he needed floor mats for his truck so he got them).

No clue what I’m getting him… probably a hoodie or something hunting related. Since we’re closing on our home by the first of December, I told him that is also his gift even though we bought it together.

Kate127 :  It’s an awesome game, he won’t be disappointed!

I’m really stumped this year, he tends to buy things as he wants them which make it really difficult to buy him gifts he wants/ needs.

milksteak :

Dh was served with notice yesterday that unless he tells me what he wants, he gets nothing.  Zilch.  Zip.  Nada.

Why, you ask?  Because he’s impossible to buy for.

Way back when we were courting, and that’s exactly what it was, it took eight months to cross the platonic barrier and enter the playful-fun-and-games phase.  In recognition of our new status, I got him a nice, fluffy black Ralph Lauren bathrobe to keep at my house.  Number of times worn since 2003:  Zero.

It was a GESTURE!  He never got it.

Since then, I have struggled every year to find the Perfect Gift, including, but not limited to a gorgeous ring (he said he would be open to wearing one), a new weather station (he’s a weather bug), and I’m still not over the damn bathrobe thing.

And for my trouble, he’s pretty much “meh”.

This year, it’s on him.

We’ve been happier since agreeing to cut back significantly for Christmas. We get each other an ornament that is significant to the year every year, plus a stocking full of candy and other small things. About $75 each total.

I know you’ve historically gone all out, but you’re seeing now that it gets exhausting. Just a suggestion.

Now if someone wants to help me pick if I’m doing the wedding or the house for the ornament, that would be great!

We are doing a smaller Xmas this year than previous years so Darling Husband isn’t getting anything too exciting.

That said, he is getting a very nice winter jacket, a gift certificate for a massage, a couple of books and some knick knacks that I know he’ll like (chocolate, etc for the stocking).

We are also thinking about a long weekend get away in February… so need to put some money aside for that, too.

I’m getting my husband a sous vide – for him, it’s a longtime dream kitchen tool. Anyone have one they particularly love? Suggestions very welcome!

I think new tires. He has badly needed new tires for at least two winter seasons now, and a few weeks ago he sent me a message about his truck being out of commission. I immediately went to he got in a wreck due to the ice under the snow – but it was just his door was frozen shut. Tires are so expensive, and he’s been putting it off, while it’s not very romantic, it is something I would feel better about.

I got his gift already. Movie Pass. $10 a month and you can see all the movies you want in theaters. We go all the time. He bought himself one, then I got mine so I can go with him. That’s what he said he wanted. But I will get him other little things. He’s getting into taking care of his skin, so I’ll get him face masks, and those pimple tools.

milksteak :  A fishing rod!  My Darling Husband asked for a fishing rod to use on camping trips and part of the gift was that I did all the research to find the right kind of rod and get all the little extra items to be set up to go do it (neither of us have any fishing experinece…yet!).

We’re weird…so i already gave it to him.  He’s super excited about it and I feel very acomplished.  We don’t normally really do xmas gifts, but this year I wanted to do something special for him because he’s been doing so much to pick up the slack while I”m at work and I felt guilty that I haven’t been contributing to our life in the same way as him.
