I just wrote a blog post about this! http://happylovelyday.blogspot.com

My fi likes the weirdest stuff. He really prefers the goofy gifts to the nice ones (sweaters, new wallet, etc) that I’ve gotten him.

Y’ALL! I realize my valet idea was totally lame but he needs one SO badly because the piles of change are making me nuts. So. I went to Homegoods today to walk around (why does that always SEEM like a good idea before it happens? I spend far too much money there) and found a REALLY nice one for 25 bucks! The one I was going to buy was $100!!!!!!! So happy, cause now I have more money to spend on him for other stuff!

I’m suprised I haven’t seen this yet but we agreed to buy each other’s wedding rings for Christmas presents this year. A friend of mine did it with her now husband last year and I thought it was the best idea. Of course, we’ll pick them out together but we get to wrap each other’s up. I’ll also stuff his stocking with some small things he like/needss like GAP boxers and maybe a tie.

We decided not to do Christmas presents this year, partly because of all the $ we spent on the wedding, and also because of the $1100 we’re spending to fly out to CA to visit my family. But I think I’m still gonna get him something. Make something sentimental or Google some DIY ideas.

We’re trying to cut back this year so I’m going for a theme type thing. We’ve talked about how we really need to cut back on date nights (typical date night = dinner out and movie… every week really adds up!) and spend more date nights in, so I’m going to do a “date night in” type gift package. Here is what I”m thinking so far:

– I’m going to make him a quilt out of all-blue fabrics (his favorite color) for us to snuggle under

– I’m buying Dexter season 3 on blu-ray– we love it but don’t have showtime anymore! (found for $35 on amazon!!)

– I’m going to try to think of some cheap date nights and write a list of them so we don’t end up in the “what do you want to do?” “I dunno what do you want to do?” loop!

I would like to add one or two more inexpensive things to the list but I am undecided…. what else could I get him that would lend itself to inexpensive date nights and be fun? I was thinking of making some gourmet popcorn for him or something but truth be told… he just isn’t really a snacker.

I’m getting him another polo dress shirt and or sweater (he loves these) and also making a coffee table book of all the fun things we all did (all  of us) together this year as a keepsake.  Maybe a gift certificate to R.E.I. also.  He’s going to be the assistant scout master of my son’s new troop next spring so he needs more outdoors stuff (he already has tons but is like a kid in the candy store when he walks into R.E.I.).

we’re doing combined birthday + christmas present this year, since we’re both broke grad students πŸ™‚  i’m excited though and splurged a bit, since i know he’s been wanting a kindle for a while now… i pre-ordered a nook e-reader for him since they seem pretty awesome, and have pdf-reading capabilty (pefect for all those journal articles he’s always reading for school). yay!  i hope he likes it, and that i don’t give too many hints to give away the surprise πŸ™‚
