I was having the same trouble (I’m a student and he gets Army retirement and has a real job, so he gets either one of us whatever he wants whenever he thinks of it). So my job at every gift-giving occasion is to come up with something he doesn’t KNOW that he wants/needs. I was stumped this year until I came across that catalog in the seatback of a plane that gave me an epiphany. Dearest is getting a train your cat to use the toilet kit. You might think that’s not romantic…but with 7 cats and 5 dogs who think kitty litter is a great snack…
Stocking stuffer will be a knife to fill out his silver setting. Somehow he wound up with 7 knives and they stopped making this pattern in 1913, so everytime I find something in it, that’s the next gift!
I’m also buying a Claddaugh ring for him–but he gets that when I get my engagement ring. If that ever actually happens.

A cashmere robe- it just arrived in the mail today and I’m jealous and now want one myself lol! He travels a lot for work and always tells me how much he likes having a robe in the hotels so I figured I’d go ahead and get him a really luxurious one.

I’m buying him a battle-ready stage combat rapier. He’s joining my theater group in the spring, and he particularly loves the fights. Now he’ll have his own sword to use instead of taking someone’s loaner!

My gift is pretty awesome (for my Fiance anyway), but I got it for like half off on Ruelala…I got him a chance to drive one of his dream cars (a ferrari or lambo) around a track and get a CD of pictures with it (he honestly have been thrilled just to take pictures with these cars let alone drive one!). I’m excited to see his reaction, I’ve been considering gifting this for awhile but couldn’t afford it until it was on Ruelala for $100 (it’s normally $250, which, outside of wedding rings and such, is more than we spend on each other for holiday gifts)
Ps The takeaway is that experience gifts are great ideas too!

I got him a cast iron skillet, a little gnome statue of his favorite college team (for some reason, he likes gnomes), The Hunger Games on blu-ray, Monopoly (he lost his copy years ago and has been wanting a new copy), tickets to The Hobbit, and a Fun. shirt (his current favorite band). Oh, and I also finally found birthday batter Oreos, which he has been wanting to try for quite some time but was never able to find, so I wrapped a package of those haha. These are all things he has mentioned in some roundabout way that he wanted …but I doubt he remembers most of them.
We exchange gifts on Saturday since we won’t be together for Christmas. I’m excited!

I got DH a whole case of the wine! During the weekend we got engaged we went up to wine country in Michigan and he fell in love with this cherry wine. Haven’t found anything like that in Iowa so I got it shipped all the way from Michigan! I also took boudoir pictures in our home and made a book in Shutterfly. Can’t wait to see his face!!

He’s a film student – so I’m getting him a book of interviews with Woody Allen (one of his favorite directors), a book about the Coen Bros., and the Scorcese documentary about Bob Dylan. And a nice, plaid button up shirt. It’s not much but we have a wedding and honeymoon to pay for! So it will do. 🙂
