What are you giving your parents or In-laws for Christmas?

I’m struggling for ideas!

I think i decided on an essential oil diffuser and a few oils for my SO’s mom, she commented how she wanted one the last time she visited and saw mine. Unsure about his dad, he likes playing hockey and golf so maybe something related to that?

His sister and husband will probably get wine, and their kids will get toys.

My parents are impossible to shop for! My mom has what appears to be a degenerative brain disease , so she is bedridden and not doing very much. I’m thinking something cozy, maybe nice new bedding or something. My dad is obsessed with boating and fishing (expensive hobbies ugh). He’s also gotten really into home technology, so I may look at a Nest thermostat or something like that. I also may order him a piece of artwork done by a local artist that they love for their beach house.

My sister and I have a somewhat one sided relationship, so i don’t plan on getting her a gift this year. Things have been a bit strained between us lately, because I make effort and she does not seem interested in reciprocating.

Obviously, I haven’t started shopping yet, just starting to brainstorm!

My Mother-In-Law is hard to shop for but she enjoys watching birds at her feeders and I found a clear acrylic birdfeeder that attaches to the window with suction cups. The reviews are quite good so I’m hoping this will bring her closer to the action, ha.

Aboslutely nothing lol.

We don’t really do gifts. My mom will buy us an AMA gold membership, and that’s about all we do haha.

My SIL and  Brother-In-Law have asked that we don’t do gifts for them or the kids. Which I really love. Makes life easier.

Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law are getting a canvas from our wedding of the family. My Father-In-Law is having a lot of health issues, and I want to focas on memories rather than stuff. I know my husband will get them something else, I might throw in a few other things as well.

Charliejeorge :  My family and I don’t do a lot of gifts. My mom sends a Christmas package with a bit of baking and like, some socks. I usually get them a gift if I visit them for the holidays and make it something really nice, but most years I just mail some gift cards for the nieces and nephews and a dinner gift card for my parents.

For fiances parents, who we will be with on Christmas, we are getting his Mom a Kobo. Not sure what we are getting his Dad yet thought.

My mum asked for a framed wedding picture. We don’t give a lot of gifts for Christmas because we don’t like the consumerist aspect of Christmas. My mother-in-law complimented me on a shirt I was wearing and told me she was looking for something similar, so I found something similar. My father in law doesn’t usually get a present from me because he reads voraciously and I have no way of knowing what he hasn’t read, he’s not interested in clothes, theatre etc; he LOVES crafting stuff but has pretty much everything apart from really expensive items that aren’t appropriate as gifts.

Charliejeorge :  we’re getting them Ancestry DNA kits! Darling Husband and I did some genetic tests recently for health purposes and they (my parents and his parents) were all fascinated by it. His parents (and my mom) for the Ancestry part, my dad for the health part. We were struggling with ideas this year so that was perfect!

My husband runs into a fair amount of authors in his job and has gotten a couple books my dad likes signed . My dad is one of those notoriously hard to shop for people who hate things they consider junk (anything not being used) and imediately buy whatever they think they want. The only way to get him something he wants is if it’s hard to procure. When my parents moved a couple years ago they left my mom’s beloved mint garden from which she’d make mint syrup for tea and juleps. Ive been growing one of the plants I snatched before they closed on the house in my basement and freezing a bunch of the leaves so I will give her that. We’re also going to frame a few wedding pictures for them. I got one gmil a Black hills gold necklace to match a ring she has but has complained she doesn’t know what to wear with it also they will get wedding pics. Other gmil will get wedding pics and I’ll probably find some jewelry on Amazon to give her as well. Mil idk if I’m going to get her anything, probably going to leave that up to dh. Everyone else has been exchanging gifts every year but she stopped getting me gifts the past couple years and has been pretty horrible towards us in general so I don’t feel like putting in the effort to get her something that she’ll probably just return anyway. She’s notorious for upfront letting you know she does not like gifts (unless she picked them) and asking for a receipt so she can exchange it.
