Not listed; but I’m glad we spent money on a nice hotel room. We booked a room for a hotel right on the Niagara Falls with a king bed and a jacuzzi.

since we went away to vegas, and only brought our parents, we spent huge money on photography. we did a great package at the ceremony and then Darling Husband and I went on the las vegas strip after sunset and got photos done at difference places – totally worth the money. i also spent a lot on my hair and makeup, and paid for my mom and mother in laws too. we spent a good chunk of change on dinner too since it was 6 of us. Our hotel room was 400 a night as well, so i guess our entire elopement was a splurge lol I knew photos were all I would have for anyone but our parents to see our wedding day so that was important to us.

I was thinking about skipping a DJ, but after getting some feedback on here and reading other threads, we went with a pro-DJ. I think we’ll be very happy we did!

hssweethearts2013 :  I wanted to vote more than once in your poll but it only allowed one vote so I voted videography because more brides will splurge on a photographer instead of a videographer. But to answer your question, I am splurging on a photographer, videographer and chiavari chairs. Yes, I know people say a chair is a chair and no one notices them but to me a chiavari chair dresses up a venue.

hssweethearts2013 :  I’m getting my hair and makeup professionally don. Initially when we started wedding planning I  though I would just do it myself cause our wedding is so low key and casual.. but then i decided that no I want to look/feel pretty and pampered so i opted for professional hair and MU especially cause I got a pretty Maggie dress (sample but still) so if the dress is nice I dont want my hair and MU looking mediocre (no offence to Bees who are doing it themselves, I just kinda suck at both so I dont wanna take the chance of looking frumpy) and considering that my weight/size is nowhere near where I though it would be at my wedding and I feel crappy about that I want to look/feel pampered at least by getting my Hair & MU done. 🙂

hssweethearts2013 :  chocolate cake iced in chocolate laughing we’ll have a vanilla or similar layer too. I appreciate that not everybody likes chocolate as much as I do 😉

hssweethearts2013 :  you forgot to include the band! I can’t stand wedding DJs so we hired an amazing local band that’s fairly well known and they were incredible – our friends were still talking about them a month after the wedding lol. They had the dance floor packed all night!

We made sure to spend a little more pp on food. Both Darling Husband and are foodies, and while we didn’t have some of the more unusual things we love, we wanted to make sure the stuff we choose was delicious for everyone. We still get compliments on the food 3 years later. 🙂

We also splurged and had an open bar, which is not the norm where we are since most venues do consumption based ($$$). We had half our guest list of 80 people travelling from out of town so it was nice to seem them totally relax when they realized that they didn’t have to worry about making their one or two drinks last past dinner.

We did also get a decent (but not top end) photog and DJ, but got a very good price due to off-season specials that helped balance the budget.

    For us:

    1.  FOOD & DRINK!  It has to be amazing and there has to be a ton of it!  That said – we are having our wedding at our farm – so there is no venue cost.  The food vendor will also include rental tables, chairs and linens

    2.  photography

    3.  Entertainment – Professional DJ for the dinner and reception music and looking into a quartet for the ceremony

    4.  decor – although I am doing most of the flowers myself – we will be purchasing a lot of flowers.

    4.  Invitations – only 50 – 60 guests but this will be a splurge for us.  I am just picky here.

I picked food because it’s related, #1 is venue. It’s the most beautiful place in the world to me, and I knew we’d get married there regardless of cost. Didn’t even research other venues. Food & alcohol will be well over 400 a person but I NEED the venue and I need that 7 course meal.

We will be splurging on having a second entree. Our venue package only includes one type of entree, and we are paying $380 to get one more choice for 60-70 guests. A small “splurge” for us, but totally worth it so everyone has something they like to eat!

We splurged on a band over a DJ.  FI was insistant on having this particular band so we decided to have a smaller wedding in order to accomodate that.

Invitations, because I had fun with them and I love how they came out. They’re really us. We’re also spending a lot more on food than we’d intended, but the caterer is amazing.
