ahartig :  I liked the first the best too! I also second The Night Circus. It was so enchanting. Also, thought of some more: Sarah’s Key, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Book Thief, The Circle by Dave Eggers…so many!

I’m currently working my way through Wheel of Time (which I don’t recommend at all, but I’m a completionist and I started). Recommendations, though:

The Steerswoman series. Just read. I don’t think it’s possible to describe without spoilers but it’s amazing.

If you’re open to comics as well; The Wicked + The Divine. Also spectacular. Pop stars and gods. Many feels.

ahartig :  All Fantasy/Sci Fi: The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (trilogy) is wonderful. The Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howie is a short story that just kept growing and is phenomenal. His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman is beautiful. The Southern Reach trilogy is quite a different style but engrossing. The Passage series by Justin Cronin. More YA: The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Birthmarked, Enclave, Sanctum, Cinder

I’m in 2 book clubs (1 face to face and 1 online). Right now we’re reading Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky and The Girls by Emma Cline. On my own I’m reading We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas.

I just finished reading Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and thought it was really good.  It’s sci-fi and is about alternate/parallel universes.  I highly recommend it!

All the missing girls. It’s more of a mystery/ thriller… But it’s so good! The good girl was a page turner too

I’m in the middle of The Nest, by Cynthia D’Aprix-Sweeney.  It’s a great read about four siblings and a trust they’re supposed to inherit – but so much more than that.

WesterosBarbie :  Girl With All the Gifts was great, until the end. I was so disapointed in the ending 🙁

ahartig :  At the moment I’m (re)reading Conrad’s Fate by Diana Wynne Jones.  It’s like a more lighthearted than Harry Potter type of magic book (Chrestomanci series).  She is also the author of Howl’s Moving Castle, which was made into a somewhat inaccurate but still enjoyable movie.

I’ve also started reading CJ Redwine’s books – she is apparently the daughter of one of my coworkers and I thought I’d give it a try.  Started with Defiance, but it’s a trilogy.  More dark, which seems to be a leaning of yours.

I think you would love the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. It’s considered New Adult Fantasy. So good!

ahartig :  Yeah ours is casual too. Our last meeting almost no one had finished the book 🙁 But we still had a good time talking.
