@Bunny_the_Bride:  They do sell samples off the rack.  Mine was a sample and it fit perfect, so they sold me that one.

I paid $500 for my dress (a sample) and alterations was $0 because a close friend did the tiny ones necessary.

my original budget was $1200 and i had picked out several gowns i loved in that range, however, my mom was the victim of a homicide/suicide last july and my fiancee reminded me that mom would have wanted me to have my dream dress now that it was possible so my dress i bought was $6700 + $1078 in alterations

I bought a sample dress for $450.  W/ taxes and what I expect to pay for alterations, it will be $800.  There’s no way I could afford those gowns on Say Yes To The Dress.

I am having two  Custom Replica dresses made by a local dress maker. My Ceremony dress will be a custom replica of a Pronovias gown, retailing at $2,800, then another $500 for alterations at the Pronovias Flagship store in NYC. My reception dress will be a replica of a BHLDN dress retailing at $800 plus alterations. They will not be THE SAME, but completely custom made for me. My mother is paying for the dresses to be made. We do not see this lady charging over $1,200 for all the work. Good deal in my book

@Bunny_the_Bride:  I’m hoping no more than $3000, which I’d like to be inclusive of alterations. I have only had one dress shopping experience (which was terrible), so I’m holding off for now. I don’t have a great sense of prices, or even of what would look good on me (right now, I’d say not much!). Fiance and I are also planning to do a TTD shoot because we love how the pictures look. We will have to wait and see 🙂

when i went dress shopping i told them my limit was 400.

they brought out my dress, and i feel inlove and when i tried it on and realized it was the one.. they told me it was 650.

i was SO angry they didn’t check the price before having me try it on.

my Fiance paid for it, because it was out of my budget. which was so nice of him to do.

and i am only paying 20$ for alterations (just getting cups sewn in)

so all together with taxes, alterations etc. 720$ wayyy more than iwanted to spend 🙁

I paid $1300 for my dress. It was on sale AND the woman wote down the wrong price (making it even lower) and nobody figured it out until I was there to make my next deposit. They let me keep the lowest price:) In all, I got about $700 off retail price.

Now if only it would get here so I can know my alterations bill!

I bought a Maggie off the rack for $700.  I love the dress!  It is a bit big for me so it will need to be hemmed and taken in.  Even with alterations, I am spending less than $1,000 which was my budget so I am right on track.

With alterations, mine will be a little over $5K.  I went over budget, but I’m paying for it so I don’t feel too guilty.
