- Wedding: December 2013
To cover our bases and “get a feel for things” for wedding entertainment, we have looked into just about everything from a very talented Manuel from Fawlty Towers impersonator to live bands and DJs. And I kept coming back to the same top class wedding DJ & MC (he’s used for all of the Wedding Shows in NZ. We’ve seen him in action and he reads his audience perfectly & is humourous and very polished). So, we went ahead and booked him.
I then planned on having other forms of entertainment in between e.g. A video of Fiance and I from children to adults and our “journey” together. And for later on in the evening releasing fire lanterns (have since decided not to do this as we won’t know what the winds will do until the night of and it could be dangerous for guests. Also, during the ceremony we will be releasing Monarch butterflies as an ode to FI’s mother who passed away from cancer and who’s birthday we are having our wedding date. So releasing something else into the air just seemed a bit too much. And are now looking at hiring two fire entertainers instead (our wedding venue, Stoneridge Estate, is medieval inspired, so fire fits in well – take a look at my thread about it).
Anyway, all was well with the DJ decision until this morning, when I developed a soft spot for a fantastic band (two male singers who play acoustic guitars). These guys have been used for a lot of national events as well and are fantastic.
I know there are a lot of issues with DJs and live bands respectively, but both entertainment options are of a very high calibre. So professionalism, sound control etc won’t be a problem. But I do question wether people do get up and dance more to live bands? Overall it feels as though a live band might be more entertaining. Yet, I still like the DJ and how he gets audiences going – he’s very attune to what music to play when and is an excellent MC.
I think it would be a little extreme hiring both, so we’ll stick to our DJ/MC but just wondered what all you other bees decided on for wedding entertainment? It is such a minefield thinking of everyone’s tastes and what would be appropriate (we saw a “Men in Black” impersonator and an Austin Powers impersonator advertised and couldn’t believe it. They were so ridiculous, they made the Fawlty Towers guy look even better, haha! Just goes to show that almost anything/anyone is for hire these days!)
