My mother wanted us to travel to her house for the holidays (read: our entire vacation), to be polite I tried to decline because

a)the roads are bad(truth!) and it is a long trip (then she offered to come pick us up!)

b)that my partner needs to be home the 25th-26th because he is taking the on-call duty for the holiday in exchange for getting monday-tuesday off (truth)

–and then she offered to come and get me & my son..without my partner/his father.. yeah right! Like we would want to spend the holidays without him, pssssssh.

So we are staying home, hiding out. We will be having a small family supper tonight and tomorrow night, and are saving the big eat for boxing day or the 27th (when our friends will be free & available) — I have extended the invitation to both sides of the family that they can join US, here if they feel like it. But we certainly will not be going anywhere.

Well today we went out to breakfast with the ILs and then exchanged gifts with SIL and Brother-In-Law. Now we’re baking gingerbreadmen and making our Christmas Eve dinner! Then we’ll be watching The Grinch and going to midnight mass. Tomorrow morning we’ll open our gifts and then go over to the ILs for Christmas dinner and more gift exchanging! Then it’s his mother’s bday the day after Christmas, and his birthday the day after that, and mine two days later!

Same every year: We go to mass @ 6pm, go to my grandparents for the rest of the night & open gifts w/ extended family. Then Christmas morning DH & I go to my parent’s house to open gifts w/ my parents and brother. DH usually goes to his parents after that, but he’s staying w/ me this year. We go to my aunt’s for lunch between 1-3pm. Then we go to a close family’s house for dessert around 7-8.
