My hubby and I have an ikea house! We have everything from ikea bookcases, entertainment center, organizers, coffee tables, mirrors, lamps, bed, dressers, kithen table, etc. We are adding a computer desk and mattress to the mix within the next couple of weeks.
We like it because is affordable, looks nice, and is very functional. Hubby had many of his IKEA furniture five years before meeting me and it moved to our home well when we got married. Nothing fell apart. We will probably keep the current furniture for another 5-10 years and then upgrade as our taste and budget allows.
What are your thoughts of IKEA? Love it? Hate it?

Love it!! 80% of our stuff is from there

I think IKEA is a great option for people shopping on a budget who like contemporary scandinavian minimalist design.
It’s not really my style, but I don’t have anything against other people buying it.

I agree with PP. I love the price, and they do last longer than some people think. My apartment had a lot of pieces from ikea. However, in the long term, I want to buy items for our house that will last longer and are a different style. I’ll still probably throw the ikea stuff that is still in good shape in the basement/family room though.

I think IKEA is great for somethings and not for others. I do not believe some items are quality and are made to last long term. However there are plenty of items that are great and prices are very reasonsonable. I never leave empty handed when I go there.

submart : love it for some things and hate it for others. I really see it as disposable furniture for the most part so we’ll likely use it for kids’ room since that gets beat on anyways. Our bedroom and main living areas I wanted higher quality and paid the extra for it. I LOVE ikea for glassware and pillow covers.

They have some cute items I wouldn’t mind owning, but I can not standing going in that place to shop, so I doubt I will ever own anything.

We like to go take a walk around now and then but I think we actually only have two pieces of Ikea furniture, a TV stand and a coffee table.

I’d say about 25% of my stuff is IKEA (the rest is hand-me-downs). I really like their home decor, but their warehouse gives me so much rage! I always get lost :-p

submart : We love it so much we’ve registered there lmao
We want a new sofa and IKEA is the only place we’ve found that does one that we can afford and will fit in our weird shaped living room.
I’d like to say that one day we’ll outgrow IKEA, but I doubt it 😛

I love it for pieces of furniture that I don’t care to spend a fortune on (or for the pieces that I haven’t yet decided what kind of forever piece to get). Our Hemnes dressers and our office desk (that’s actually a repurposed dining table) are from there.
That being said, I hate hate hate shopping there. It’s always crowded with the rudest people who seem to have brought every child under 4 in their extended family along with them. I’ve also never been into their sofas (styles aren’t my taste) or beds (I like higher bed frames).
ETA: Oh and ever since Fiance and I saw this vid, he tries to do it too, which makes things more entertaining and more annoying: https://youtu.be/7T2oje4cYxw 😛

I think it’s cheap modern furniture…don’t like the style . Seems like something a college student would buy.

submart : I think because we are starting off and living in a small place, it’s perfect. I agree that generally speaking, the furnitures do last longer than what some might assume. Perhaps because we are careful and take care of our stuff well(?). Later on, when we are more settled, I’d like to invest in higher quality and more expensive furniture.

I like certain things from there. I wouldn’t buy a couch or dining room table, but we have our dressers, tv stand, and buffet in our dining room, and toy storage (those 4 and 8 cubbie shelve things) and we love it. Its perfect for kids. It is good because it all looks nice enough. We are planning to move into our forever home in a few years so I didn’t want to buy a bunch of furniture that wouldn’t necessarily go or fit in our new house.

I like it, but it IS cheap. We have a couple bedside tables from there. And same as a PP, it’s a bear to get around! So if I’m looking for something, I find it online, then go straight to that section to look at it to see if I want it. And the cinnamon rolls always smell really good.
