Yes, as long as you don't wear the ring/announce during wedding festivities. You paid for your trip. : (56 votes)

It’s fine to propose to your SO while on a trip to someone else’s destination wedding, as long as you use a little common sense and class about it. Don’t propose *during the actual wedding or reception* and don’t make a big show-offy fuss over it. Wearing the ring is fine; shoving your hand in everyone’s faces so they pay attention to you is not fine.  And if someone gets engaged while traveling for your Destination Wedding, be gracious. Be happy for them. Congratulate them. You’re not 11 years old; you won’t die if someone else gets a little spotlight now and then.

Life can be complicated and there are going to be occasions where we need to celebrate more than one thing at a time. Don’t be an ass about it, and everything will be ok.

I think it is okay as long as you don’t announce it or wear your ring. Just ask yourself if you are okay with downplaying that moment just because you are there for someone else wedding. Personally I would be ecstatic if one of my friends got engaged on my wedding weekend. More love to celebrate. But we are a super close group of friends. 2cents :

ETA: Congratulations! I think you did the right thing 😀

What I had posted before reading:

I vote for doing it on the trip but after the wedding.

One of my best friends (a bridesmaid) got engaged very shortly before my semi-destination wedding, with a gemstone ring (ETA: not as elaborate as yours) and she actually wore it on her right hand until after the wedding to avoid drawing any of the attention onto herself. It was completely unnecessary, but it was also a really nice gesture that I appreciated.

Congrats!!!  And very classily-done, and did you find you enjoyed your friend’s wedding even more so?
