My pre-pregnancy work wardrobe:

-Five blouses

-One ‘office casual’ dress

-Two skirts

-Two pairs of dress pants

-Three Cardigans

I’m told my wardrobe was very ‘minimalistic’ though!

I’m a wardrobe minimalist.  I’m an engineer, and having a sleek minimalist esthetic is something that is valued in my field and place of work.  I also travel a lot for business and it makes my life easier to be able to live out of a carry-on bag only.

My work capsule wardobe varies a little depending on season, but includes:

  • 1 pair dark wash denim trousers
  • 2-3 pair high-end wool trousers (grey, black, white/ivory)
  • merino wool short sleeve tops (sweater knit t-shirts) (dark grey, light grey, black, white)
  • merino wool long sleeve tops (dark grey, light grey, black, white)
  • some sort of cardigan (usually waterfall style) in black and grey
  • black knee high boots
  • black ballet flats
  • multi-season wrap dress (black or grey)
  • black or grey pencil skirt

I have been collecting silk scarves for years and I have an enormous collection. So when I get dressed, I grab one (sometimes at random) to add a little color and flair.  Sometimes I wear a scarf as a belt, a shawl, headband, etc.  I know about 50 different ways to wear a scarf!  It’s amazing how you can get away with wearing the same 2-3 outfits but accessorizing them differently.

Dresses + sweaters/blazers is my go to.

I probably have 10+ dresses and 10 cardigans and a few blazers that I just swap around and mix and match. In the winter I wear them with boots & tights/leggings and in the summer with heels or flats.

IMO- nothing more comfortable or easy to throw on than a nicely fitted dress and sweater or blazer. I have mostly all neutral colors, so everything matches.

Sleeveless blouses in a variety of colours that you love. They work well on their own, under blazers and  under cardigans. Tucked in, out you name it. That and a great handbag. I love grey or maroon as they generally go with all the colours in my wardrobe.

LittleButtons :  I pretty much live in dresses paired with black tights, cardigans, and boots. Think Bernadette from the Big Bang Theory, so my list might be a little different.

– 1-2 pairs of dark ankle boots with a medium heel (to pair with pencil dresses)

– 1-2 pairs of dark mid-calf boots (to pair with full skirt dresses)

– 3-5 cardigans

– I have an endless supply of dresses but always make sure to have at least three of: jersey dresses, full-skirt dresses, and pencil dresses.

– For conferences, I stick to pencil-skirts with loose silk blouses.

That is pretty much it but we don’t really get summer where I live, which makes it easier.

LittleButtons :  Here are some examples of dresses similar to the ones I wear a lot.  I love dresses b/c they look so pulled together but are actually easier and more comfortable than wearing pants.

LittleButtons :  I pulled it up on a google image search for “Tahari.”  I have this dress with slightly different colors and bought it at Nordstrom Rack.  Nordstrom Rack, Marshals, and Macy’s are my fav places to pick up these items.

I rent from le tote.  It’s been really great.  I’ve kept a few pieces, but it dresses me 2/5 days.

In my own closet I have some trousers, some skirts, a bunch of blouses, a WHOLE SLEW of blazers

My general outfit is: jeans, blouse, blazer.

On days I’m pretty sure no one will see me: leggings, t-shirt, blazer

On days I’m going to be in the public eye or at a conference: suit and blouse (sometimes skirt-suit, sometimes pant suit)
