I’m currently on the NuvaRing but I may be switching to the implant.

Mirena IUD. I’m horrible about remembering the pill! With the IUD, I don’t even have to think about it.

I’m on Portia (bcp), but I am thinking of switching to Mirena. Hormonal bcp works great for me, but I am getting up there in age (32) and I am worried about my family history, so I want to get off combination birth control.

I’m also on the pill but I’m considering getting an IUD.  I’ve talked with a good friend that has one and she said that while the actual insertion and the first week or so are pretty rough, after that she’s had no worries whatsoever!  I’m pretty bad at remembering to take the pill and I feel like it’s made it harder for me to lose weight. 🙁  Neither Fiance nor I like condoms so right now the pill fits the bill.

@Ninteenthchance:  I used the nuvaring and ONLY the nuvaring for 2-3 years and I was fine. As long as you put it in & take it out when you’re supposed to and don’t ever keep it out for more than an hour or so, you’ll be fine.

@classical_wolf:  I haven’t had for long but so far its been great. No side effect like I ha with the pill, I don’t have to think about it for 3 years and it’s suppose to be more effective than surgery (at least that what the Internet said) so no babies! plus it’s kinda fun to play with in my arm when I get bored 🙂

@taylorkirby:  Is that generic Ortho Tri Cyclen called Trinessa? I’m on the generic one and that’s what it’s called.

Doesn’t matter which form of BC you begin using as long as you DO NOT start the Depo Provera injections. For the love of God do not start that regimen! It’s a shot you get 4 times a year and basically all it consists of is chemicals that stay in your body and wreak absolute havoc on your mood, weight, and everything else!

After I got the first shot, I started spotting about a month later. (Not heavy enough for a tampon, but enough to need a pad/panty liner) And when I got the next shot 3 months later I WAS STILL SPOTTING!!! I didn’t get a period because it was a solid 4-5 months of spotting. I gained A LOT of weight and it changed my temperament and my mood and even temporarily changed my personality while the chemicals were in my body.

And I decided not to continue with the 3rd shot because I couldn’t handle anymore of the very negative side effects. So I stopped and never got my third shot, and I didn’t get my next period until 6 months later (October 2012). From October, until May, my periods (which have always been 4-5 days long) were lasting 17 DAYS! And they were super heavy, and it was just absolutely ridiculous! This past may I went back to my obgyn for my annual exam and he put me back on the pill I was on a couple years ago and my periods have re-regulated themselves and I feel much more like myself.

I do not know a single person who likes or has liked Depo or had a good experience with it. It’s convenient, but that is the ONLY good thing about it.

@Bebealways:

CBC here. Smile Always nice to run into another childfree woman.

I don’t use any birth control because my husband has had a vasectomy. We do not want children.

When he had it done, we opened a bottle of bubbly and toasted a life for just the two of us.

I’ve had the Mirena IUD for 4.5 years and I love it. I haven’t had a period the whole time. I’ll definitely be getting another one in 6 months when it’s time to replace it.
