We decided a  couple  of years ago that we didn’t need more “things”. We now give experiences.

The last gift I gave him was a VIP Tour of a winery, including lunch and a stay in their B&B.

@julies1949:  That’s a great idea.  I think I will cook something like this up for his birthday in a few months.  This year I got him/us concert tickets and took him on a pub crawl.

Just knowing how boys are with electronics if you go the tv route, let him help you pick it out

We also don’t do physical gifts (although Fi breaks this rule about every other year, usually with something stupidly expensive too, making me feel sheepish).  We give each other trips or event tickets. One year I surprised him by paying for one of his closest friends to fly up and spend the weekend with my fi, knocking around doing guy stuff (they camped out in the basement and played xbox then cooked up a storm on the grill).

@s.renea9:  I try to do thoughtful little things. I ordered him some stuff from his favorite UK football club. I got him a set of DVDs for an old TV show he used to watch. I got him a funny t-shirt based on his favorite show. Box set of a band he likes.

I just try to be creative. I usually go for a smattering of little-ish things… even his favorite chocolate, candy, and liquor miniatures along w. the slightly bigger things.

60″ TV is a good idea, but obviously wait until you can afford it.

There must be some things he likes that you could base the gifts on.

Edit: I also made some love coupons. He got a kick out of them!

@s.renea9:  I usually replace what he has. I’ve replaced his electric shaver and I obviously am now in charge of upkeeping the blades … I’ve replaced his wallet, his watch, got him a new dress watch.

We met at a concert and like to go to concerts together so we get each other concert tickets for special occasions. My SO’s bday is this weekend and I got us concert tickets, a nice dinner (Thanks, Living Social!), a shirt of his fave college team (my rival!), and some goodies he likes. We also like to play darts at a local bar (part of our first date) so we like to do that for special occasions too.

I have given my husband, skydiving, hot air balooning, salt river rapids, jumping off the stratosphere and a framed collage of me and the kids he cold have at his desk at work, each year I try and top myself.  I have no clue what I am going to do this time (his bday is in march).  But he loves stuff like that, he really wants to BASE jump, but I like him alive, so I doubt I will ever give him that experience.

So I am going to subscribe to this thread to see what I can get him for March.
