I just bought the cheapest basal body thermometer I could fine. The brand of mine is ReliOn. I got it at walmart for around 6 dollars.

and the only difference I could find between a bbt and a normal thermometer is that the bbt calculates to the nearest hundredth, instead of the nearest tenth. So it gives you a more accurate temp.

Do not buy the Target Up&Up brand. A quick search even on this site alone will show you that it has “favorite” temps. Not to say that those temps aren’t close enough to give you a good picture of what’s going on, but it’s frustrating and will make you question your chart.

I haven’t heard anything negative about any other brands. I think TCOYF recommends the Nexcare one with the backlight. I have this one:

redux:  eek! That’s good to know. That’s the one we’ve been using. Fertilityfriendd said there were issues with my chart that could possibly be linked to improper temping…

melisandescott:  I have been using that thermometer too, and got some wacky temps (still a shift though) and the messages from FF…but discovered that my oral temps and vaginal temps (weird, but true!) are vastly different. So I’ll be temping both the next few cycles. Might be worth looking into?

I picked up the ReliOn from Wally World, and it’s been fine for me.
