I think if he is a chewer most likely not matter what you put he will chew. Have you tried putting in other chew toys to keep him occupied?

i bought a crate liner from target that we use as a bed. the cover seems pretty durable…my dog is definitely a chewer, but he hasn’t destroyed his bed yet and it’s been over 6 months.

Actually nothing. My labs loved the coldness of the bottom of the crate. You really need to be careful what you put in there if you do bc if they are agressive chewers, that is only leading to more danger of them swallowing stuff that can block their intestine etc.

Our dog is a chewer and a scratcher.  We have a very similar crate (is it the ASPCA crate?) and we went through several liners before finally putting a piece of plywood cut to fit in there. It’s been about a year, and he hasn’t hardly chewed or scratched it at all, so I think that’s a good thing.  Even though I would like to leave something soft in there for him to lie on, most of the time when he’s not crated he’s laying on our wood floors, so I don’t think he minds too much.

I agree with MissGreen….I didn’t put anything in the bottom of my dog’s crate. I left her a couple of toys that she couldn’t destroy and that was it.

Right now, we have his bed in the crate as well as a soft blanket that he loves.  He doesn’t chew on either to the point of destruction, thank goodness!  I do throw in a couple chew toys in case he needs them.

I’m too much of a sucker for my pups!  I would feel bad having them sleep on the bare plastic floor!  They both get their beds in their crates even though they have torn them up.  They don’t eat them, just like to pull the stuffing out and watch momma stuff it back in when she comes home from work!  I think the next beds I will buy will be from lands end.  They have some really durable fabric on the outside that I think it would be hard for them to chew through (but maybe not!)  Right now their beds are in the garage so they each have a blanket in their crates and they have not chewed the blanket- so that is good!

If you dog chews / destroys / eats the beds you put in there – then don’t put anything in there!  I think we have that exact same crate and our lab mix will chew and eat any kind of bedding we put in there (and trust me – we tried finding super durable stuff – it’s not that durable).  So now we don’t have anything but the plastic liner that the crate comes with and our dog doesn’t mind at all.  We just give her a few chew toys and she’s good to go!
