Good afternoon Laides!! I am a DIY kinda bride, working on a small budget and a short engagement. One of our larger cost items has been the cake, I live in a resort town and there isn’t a baker anywhere that doesn’t want two arms and a leg to do a cake. So I ask all you creative gals, what are some options if we don’t want to have cake?

one of the bloggers is doing a pie buffet. you should find that. sounds like you can do it ahead of time and freeze them and then cook them a couple days out. total DIY and not to bad fiscally either!
We are doing a cake, but at 10pm are doing cookies with little cartons of milk (school lunch style) if you’re having a casual affair this could be awesome as jut the dessert!

I like the pie buffet idea! I have also heard of cookie buffets. Cupcakes are also in, although if you get them through a wedding baker, you probably aren’t saving money. You could do squares, almost any kind of baked goodness really, cheesecake, fruit and cheese trays, just to name a few. Yum!

We had three cakes, two cheese cakes, bite sized tuxedo brownies, pecan tassies, and cookies. It was sort of a dessert buffet. And it was delicious.
My SIL had pie and donuts with hot cider for her fall wedding, which was fab also.

I like the dessert buffet idea! You could have various pies, cakes, cookies, and other delicious pastries. You could even get these from your local grocery store or bakery and put them on cute stands to make them look pretty!

We did cupcakes and it was waaaay less then a cake!
We actually found a baker that was starting her business on craigslist so we got a GREAT deal (.75 cents per cupcake and this included a filling) and her cupcakes were a hit!

Our friends just did a pie buffet and it was really nice. The bride, her mom, and a couple aunts all baked really beautiful and tasty pies and it was refreshing to have all the different flavours. For favours they canned a bunch of home made jam and made the whole thing a rustic country theme.

I head one of the ladies on here had all the women of her life make a cake for the reception. More than likely the women would enjoy doing it and it would be very nice for your budget.

We are doing cakeballs… We actually found a bakery that specializes in these, but you could totally make them about a month before hand and then defrost them in time for your big day…
Here is a link to what our bakers are doing: http://cheapchicbride.blogspot.com/2010/11/cakeballsmmm.html

i’d make it fun and try to make a theme out of it. like all pies, cupcakes, coffee and donuts, different types of cheesecake, maybe cookies and milk themed, or brownies and milk, sundae bar, etc.
