I went bridemaids dress shopping today with my maid of honor. I like the idea of having the same dresses on the bridesmaids and Maid/Matron of Honor but with something different on the dress of the Maid/Matron of Honor (brooch, sash, etc). I really like this dress, but I am unsure of what can be done to make it stand out. If I choose this dress, what can we add to it and where? It will be in a drak purple. Sorry if the pic is huge, I don’t know how to resize it.

@adalm03: I wouldn’t add anything to the dress. Sashes tend to look like an afterthought to the design. None of us wear sashes with our dresses in real life, yet many brides think they need to add one to the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, either to differentiate the Maid/Matron of Honor or just to use their whole color palette.
Everyone will know the Maid/Matron of Honor. She will be the one standing next to you.
If you must do something different, I would get her a different necklace.

@adalm03: what about a big statement necklace?! with the other girls not wearing something as bold

I’m wearing this dress in a wedding in March and the Maid/Matron of Honor has the same one, same color. She is going to add a blingy brooch right in the middle where the rouching material crosses.

I like the blingy necklace idea!

@adalm03: Yeah, I wouldn’t add anything to the dress itself. With the ruching and everything a sash would look really weird and I think a brooch dead center above her stomach isn’t going to be flattering on anyone. Maybe a big statement necklace, a shawl or have her go with a different shade of dress altogether.

@adalm03: I agree with previous posters about not adding anything to the dress.
Are your girls carrying flowers? Maybe have something different for the Maid/Matron of Honor.

@adalm03: you can add a broach on the waist area.

@julies1949 I like the necklace idea. Thank you. I wouldn’t put a sash with this dress. That was more for an example of things added to Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.
@beeberry A statement necklace may work well! Thanks
@kaw2be The brooch would be interesting to see on this dress.
@brandnewbride I like that idea too!
@lia The statement necklace is top choice!
@butterflywings I have thought about giving her a slightly larger bouquet or different flowers.

@MexiPino: ive seen on the David Tutera show adding brooches to the dress but you to put it in the right spot and it has to be the right piece. I think she should either add a brooch but not in the center (you are right it would look odd) but maybe off to the side. ORRR wear flashy jewlery. Dont do both a brooch and flashy jewlery bc then its too much
