Have you looked at the Honda CR-V?  I looked at all of your options when I was searching for a new car, but ended up loving the CR-V the most out of all of them.  The price was the best as well.  We are leasing it, so I can’t attest to the price but I really really love it.  I have a basic model and I have a backup camera and a sun roof.

@caits615:   They are very cute! Is there a difference between sunroof and moonroof?  I dunno..haha.  It opens up and it’s awesome.

I found that the CRV had a LOT more space than the Rogue did.

I really want a Prius! Both of my parents drive one now and I don’t think they’ve had any major problems. They get amazing gas mileage!

My mothers is a hatchback and my dad’s is a sedan.
I like the hatchback one…I think those are under $24-25K new. Gas alone is why I want one! I’ve driven them to Colorado and back a few times (about 1200 miles RT+ local in-town driving) on 2-3 tanks of gas (only taken my moms out to CO…I think her tank is only 9 gallons).

I don’t know enough about any cars to know which ones are more costly to repair though.

I had a beetle and totally agree about it being always broken! I have a honda fit now and LOVE it!!!! I’ve driven it in LA traffic, moved cross country with it (and ALL of my stuff) drive it in New Hampshire winters, and now am expecting a baby and feel safe having my baby ride in it. Comfy, roomy, easy to drive, great gas milage. Let me know if you have any questions about it!

We bought a 2012 Honda CRV last May and love it.  We have the mid model with the backup camera, sun/moon roof, upgraded wheels and a few other things.  We did not like the base model because it didn’t come with those options.  It is decent on gas.  We get about 23 MPG.  Ours cost about $22-23K but we got the AWD since we live in NY and get snow.  I see that you live in GA so I am not sure if you would really need the added cost of AWD.

One that doesn’t use much gas and won’t cost too much.  Scion XA, XD are awesome!  Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix.  Subarus are very expensive to work on and costly.  Get a used car.  My own 2 cents….I would never buy an new car again!

I have a 2009 Fit, bought it new. I haven’t had any problems with it so far.  It looks small from the outside, but it is actually pretty roomy inside.  It fits me, my fiance & two dogs great for road trips. Great gas milage also. However, if you have kids, you’ll probably want something larger.

I own a 2011 Subaru Impreza and adore it. You absolutely can’t go wrong with that choice.

That said, I have had a chance to drive the Impreza, Focus, and Fit (as well as the Prius). I liked the Focus but it had about three inches of rear leg room with my Fiance (6’2) and his best friend (6’4″) in the front seats. Literally, my legs were sqeezed between the rear bench and the back of the front seat, and I have skinny calves. Also the radio controls were impossible to use. The Escape would be roomier but they have been catching fire– yikes!

I thought the Honda Fit was great. Very versatile for a small car, easy to drive and park, a lot of little thoughtful features. Hondas are incredibly reliable as I’m sure you know.

I see that you are in Atlanta, so you probably don’t have any need for AWD. In the interest of gas mileage, if I were you, I would probably get a Fit or a Prius. My parents have a 2010 Prius and their only complaint is rear visibility, but they happily overlook that because they average 55mpg year round. By The Way, the batteries in the Prius are designed to last 10 years.

We just sold our 2002 VW Beetle and got a 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback and we love it!  Subaru’s are great cars, reliable, comfortable, and good gas mileage. We love the space in the back, although after owning a Beetle, everything feels huge!
