It really depends on how it looks on the person’s finger. i think 2 carats is big and big enough.

Totally depends on your finger size and length. Proportional is ideal to me.  For my own personal finger size, hand size and comfort level, 1-1.25ct is “big” to me and anything bigger than that is “too big”.  But that’s just me.

3 is big

5 is MY max for MY finger

however, I love large diamonds beyond 5 and even under , i just love looking at diamonds all shapes and sizes.

I have size 4.25 fingers, so “big” for me is 1.25-1.5. TOO big for me would be anything over 1.75, I guess. Especially because I love halos. I also want moissanite and I fear that people would be snotty and say that I only got a “fake” stone so I could get a huge ring.

I don’t really think “too big” exists.

I have a 2 carat, and a 6 finger.  I didn’t think it was “big” – pretty normal and a nice size.  I love it and think it’s a great size.  A lot of people say it’s big.  I like to consider that a compliment.  🙂

I’ve never look at someone’s ring and judge it based on size. Not all rings/sizes are everyone’s taste, but as long as the girl who is wearing it loves it, that’s all that matters.

@musician32992:  Same here. I’m much more comfortable with a muuuuuch smaller stone (under .5), but if we could afford it, I might go up to 1 or a little over. Anything over that is too big.

@ceebree:  That’s of course a chart based on one person’s opinion (the orange area centered and highlighted), not some kind of objective reality.

My opinion (my “orange zone”) is somewhat more conservative than the author of that chart’s.

@vorpalette:  I have a 1 carat, 6X8mm oval aquamarine in a halo and I think it looks huge on my hand! People have asked where he came up with the money for a 2 carat rock! I kinda like it though…

@ceebree:  My FSMIL comes from money and is quite blunt about needing the best of everything, so naturally moissanite was horrifying to her! My SO bought me a gorgeous moissanite necklace and now I can’t imagine having anything else for my ring.

1.5 – nice and big ,but not huge and out of the norm.  2 – wow big! (in a good way),  getting to 3+ – wow too big

Over 2cts is big to me, but not in a bad way. If you’ve got it flaunt it!

However I did see an 8ct yellow pear shaped diamond ring on Pricescope once that made me go “Whhhoa! I don’t know if I could pull that off!” (out loud lol). So maybe that’s too big? *shrugs* If someone gave it to me I would probably try to wear it at least. It was beautiful.
