“Because if I got a 1.5ct stone and was a student still in school, it would be less believable”

Nobody is really going to be able to tell the difference between a 1.5 ct and a 1.25 ct diamond when it’s on your finger.

I don’t think it came off as snobby– I got your point that you were explaining your situation in your OP to avoid having people ask that question as replies.

Anyway I voted you should go for the bigger one.

I wouldn’t worry about the size, just get the one that you like. Sometimes the way the diamond is cut makes it look larger anyways. No one really looks at it and says oh wow it is .25 carets off

Plus it is no one else’s business what size and why you got whichever ring you get! Do what you want!

It sounds like you really like the idea of the bigger stone, so go for that one!  πŸ™‚

As a side note, I’m not really a fan of people passing a non-diamond off as a diamond either, but realistically, people will typically assume it is a diamond unless they are told otherwise.  That is just the way society is.  I guess for me if someone were to ask and you were to say it is moissanite and not a diamond that is fine, but at the same time, it isn’t like you are going to be “Oh this is moissanite not a diamond!” as the first thing you say when someone asks to see your ring.

@DeathByDesign:  Yeah – I definitely get what you are saying.  Everyone has an opinion on diamonds and other stones.  You will have a beautiful stone on your hand, so just because it isn’t a diamond doesn’t mean it isn’t a beautiful stone anymore!  I wouldn’t go out of my way to spoil someone’s opinion on it either, although I would tell them what it is if I were specifically asked.

It’s so exciting choosing a ring!  Now you have the proposal to look forward to!  πŸ™‚

@DeathByDesign: i dont think its the same at all. I think its cool everyone has their own taste & gets different types of stones. But buying a purse thats cheaper but looks the same as a designer. Just like the diamond thing. Its essentially a knock off. Its not about money. I know plenty of people who could spend the money but choose not too. Its the fact that you want it to pass as a diamond that confuses me. Regardless of the fact. No one will really be able to tell the difference in ct. unless you put one on each hand. If you want the bigger one, get the bigger one. I doubt anyones going to question it. Its all about what the ring represent, doesnt matter if theres a river rock! lol
