I decided this by my finger size and coverage which is a 5. I think smaller than .50 like say .25 is pretty small. 1 carat is perfect, anything bigger than 1.5 is big. I think small diamonds are cute actually and big ones can look “showy off” like “bam!” In your face depending on how it looks but I’ve seem some tasteful ones. No offense to anyone, we all have our opinions.

For me because I have big swollen pregnancy fingers and a bigger ring size (7.5 usually, 8 right now) I think anything above 1.5 carats is big. I think 1 carat is small on me. However, I see women with cute small fingers that a 1 carat looks massive on.

In general (not just on me) I think anything a carat and over looks large, anything .5 and under is small. .75 to 1.3 is generally the range that looks ideal to me on a variety of finger sizes.

Anything under 0.9 ct to me looks small, but it really depends on the cut and person’s ring size. Sometimes they look huge in a halo setting! Over 1.7+ is considered big to me.

Size doesn’t matter

Diamond size is without doubt the most tedious of the four Cs.

Better to have a smaller diamond and marry a good man sooner.

I agree with others that a lot of this is dependent on finger size.  My finger is a 9.75 and I have a 1.5 ct.  I don’t think the stone looks too small on me, but this same carat size on a size 4 finger it would look much larger.  Anything above a 2.5ct would be considered big to me, maybe anything smaller than .25 would seem small to me, but again, it all depends on finger size.

I think small looks better. 0.25-0.5 (0.5 looks big on my finger though!). I thought  I wanted big which I consider 1.5ct but now I realise it looks like costume jewellery on me and too flashy.

I am a uk bee but here a large rock is called a “knuckle duster”. That may be why I don’t consider large rocks to be elegant and classy. They may be so on certain hands but I just really can’t stand wealth being displayed. There is just something so beautiful about small/medium diamonds even on very wealthy people who can afford bigger.

For me ( like other already mentioned ) size of carat depends on size of your fingers. i.e. I have size 35 for my middle finger and my ring finger is 3. I had 0.75 on my middle finger and it looks gigantic ( I am not enganged not even have bf LOL ) Then I bought 2 ct ring and put it on my middle finger it looks like rocky mountain sitting on my finger.

So I would say, probably for people with bigger finger size 1ct up consider big and below 1ct small ?

For me I consider 0.5ct below small and 0.5 up big

On MY hand, I think anything below 1ct looks small, and anything over 2ct looks too big for my taste. I wear a size 7/7.25 and have have long, bony fingers. I don’t really care what other people wear, as long as they’re happy.

I think anything over 1ct is big. Anything 0.4-0.8 I would consider “average” and anything less than 0.4 I would consider a ‘smaller’ stone. I fell in love with a ring with a 0.25ct center though, although ended up with 0.75ish. I think dainty stones are so beautiful!
