It would either be an amethyst or a deep purple sapphire.  If I wasn’t going to go with my current look I’d go a little over the top with the setting as well.  Here’s one that I admire:

I’m pretty traditional, so I don’t think I’d want anything but a diamond, but I do know a few people with blue sapphire engagement rings. While its not for me (as an engagement ring), I would love to have a sapphire right hand ring someday.

I’d go with chocolate diamonds! (which is diamond, but brown. So it’s alternate to me haha)

Ooh, the colour changing properties of alexandrite would be very tempting as a second-choice stone.

@lilsweetie:  I have a yellow fancy (canary yellow) diamond which I love but would also swap it for a pink diamond 😀

I’d swap my traditional diamond for a pink diamond (not a moissy  but a real, pale pink diamond) with a halo of pink pave diamonds and down the shank.  I love howshe light pink ones look but thepricestag is outrageous. Serious ring envy of Jennifer Lopez’s ring she got from Ben Afflec way back in the day.

@mrs_pugetsound: That ring is gorgeous!  I’d love to wear something like that on my other hand.

@lilsweetie:  I don’t think I would feel fulfilled with anything other than a diamond BUT I love the idea of a blue sapphire engagement ring .

I would love a morganite set in rose gold like this one but with double claw prongs.
