I think it is dependent on the designer and style of ring.  When resetting my solitaire into a new setting, the ring designer offered two options– one with VS side stones in the halo and band, and the other with SI.  Obviously, the former was more expensive.  I think it also depends on the size of the stones- probably won’t matter as much if the stones in the halo are on the small side.

My jeweler made the diamonds in the halo/setting the same color and clarity as my main center stone so they all looked the same level of “whiteness” if that makes sense. Everything is G/SI1 in my ring and everything matches perfectly. With small stones in a halo, SI is fine because you really can’t see inclusions in them.

We went with a Michael M the diamonds in the Halo are G/VS or greater.  It made it tricky picking out the stone because you want the same whiteness. We shall see how the final product came out.

My side stones are SI2 and H/I color – my center stone is a G and I feel like you can tell a slight difference in color but there’s definitely no issue with clarity – they sparkle like crazy

I don’t have my new ring yet, but the diamonds in the halo are G/VS2 (only choice they offered) and the center diamond is an H.  The jeweler told me that many designers/manufacturers offer only G colored side stones because they go very well with higher colored center diamonds (D, E and F) and lower colored ones.  My old setting had G colored side diamonds as well and you could not tell the color difference between them and my center diamond.

Mine are vs2-si1, g-h.  I don’t have a clear picture of the pave on mine, but they’re clear, white, and sparkly.

I think it’s all dependent on the center stone and that they match.  A trusted jeweler will make sure that happens!
