@MrsNeutrino: I’m not sure how long the fitting process takes, but this month sounds like a good idea–my first fitting is in March and my wedding is in September so that’s basically the same time frame.

As for your undergarments, I definitely recommend nude. I know it seems logical to wear a white bra with a white dress, but that can definitely show through. I will never forget seeing this girl at a football game during college wearing a white dress through which her white thong was VERY clearly showing. Like the whole thing. So embarrassing! So yes, nude is the way to go πŸ™‚

Under white, the only option should be nude undergarments.  A friend posted Christmas photos on Facebook recently.  She looked really cute, ADORABLE white sweater…with a black bra underneath.  Um…TRASHY!  If it had been a cami that went all the way down, she probably could have pulled it off, but you could clearly see it was a bra.

They do make a variety of one- or two-piece body suits that may work under your dress.  Here’s a link to some Spanx that might fit the bill.  http://www.spanx.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3010022′ defer=’defer

My wedding is mid july and because my wedding is 4 hours from where I live, so is where I bought my dress.  I already had my first fitting, I have a 2nd fitting scheduled for May 19th when I am home again.  Then I will do my final fitting in early July sometime.

As what other bees have said….go for nude undergarmets.  Have you tried victoria secret’s lacy thong?? I have those and I love them.

@MrsNeutrino: I wore a white strapless bra but ended up taking it off as I had cups sewn into my dress. I had my first fitting 6 weeks before the big day.

I went in for a consultation with my seamstress in October for my January wedding, but the first time that I am going in to actually start the alterations is this week. I’ll probably go in three more times (including once to pick up the dress) in the next three weeks.

If you don’t tend to lose or gain weight, I don’t see why you couldn’t start your alterations now. But they certainly won’t take 6 months to complete.

Can you wear a shaping slip, like this? Many have built in underwear:

Or something like this?

Or go commando?

@MrsNeutrino: Oh oops, I must have missed the part about finishing in April! You probably will just want to start your alterations by March, then. I’d call around to see the schedules of different seamstresses. For example, mine had knee surgery in November, so that’s why I made my initial appointment so early!

Have you tried Commando brand? A lot of their panties are made of a really comfy, seamless material with laser-cut edges. They are made of incredibly stretchy material, but the smallest size range of a Small is a size 0, 25 inch waist.

Your alterations should be done closer to your wedding.  The norm is about 6 weeks, that way everything fits well. If you do months before your wedding your body weight may change quite a bit.

As for bra you should always do nude/beige under see through clothing

@MrsNeutrino: I am going in about an hour to my first try on/fitting since my dress came in and I am taking two bras with me. I have a nude one and a white one with a low back, since I am not sure if the nude one will work or not.

I am also just wearing white, lacy boy shorts because last time I went I wore a thong and people were up and down the dresses and under my dress and they probably saw a lot more than they wanted to!

I saw your dress By The Way on another thread and I LOVE it…. great choice!

@MrsNeutrino: OOH YAY your day is approaching!! πŸ™‚ I remember this discussion we had where you said you’d be knocking on the door of the tailor on New Years Day! Pretty close!  I say go for it!

As far as bra goes, I wore a nude colored bra and it worked fine – I do find that white shows through more than nude.  Panty wise, I like the slip/spanx suggestion! Good luck with the final stretch!

@MrsNeutrino: no not at all… but my dress has a dropped waist with a lot of layers of  mesh tulle so I could probably wear whatever I wanted under there and no one would be the wiser. I think for the actual wedding day I saw some “Bridal Panties” at Victorias Secret that are soooo cute and I will probably wear those.
