It partially depends on your skin tone. You’d actually be shocked by how many different shades dresses actually come in. I think it’s better to find the dress you love, then consider colors.

Most, but definitely not all, brides look best in a light (non-yellow) ivory vs. a stark white.  However, it truly depends on your skin tone and the exact shades in which the dress you love is made.

When I was engaged the first time (and later canceled that wedding and broke that engagement), I absolutely had my mind set on wearing stark white.  When I learned that silk dresses did not come in white, since natural silk is off-white/ivory in color, I chose a stunning, beaded, tulle ball gown so that I could have a bright white dress. However, I never wore that dress, and, many, many years later when I was engaged to my now Darling Husband, I went into the dress-selection process knowing that I wanted a silk dress and chose the diamond white (i.e. light ivory) shade.

Have you tried on different colours? The way I knew I would look better in a champagne and ivory than just ivory or white was that when I tried ivory on in stores it just didn’t quite accentuate my skin tone. Champagne is much better for me and I like that it’s a little different. Try a few shades and you’ll have an idea right away. I agree with Brielle that most brides don’t suit stark white.
