    I think having white or black in the outfit is fine.

    Having the dress be predominantly white, off-white, black, or near-black, is a faux pas to me, even though some ppl think some of those choices are fashionable. You know you are not the bride and that this is not an occasion for mourning… don’t let the outfit suggest otherwise!

    However, I have more concerns with women who take the ocassion to flash lots of glitz, cleavage and/or leg… or men who simply show up in jeans. I’ll have a dress code, and all I really want is “appropriate,” but there is one person I’m so concerned about showing up as if it is a burlesque show in which she is the star anyway, I’m tempted not to invite her.
