Postage. Definitely postage.  It turned out that our invitations were oversized, so we had to pay extra postage on every single one.

EVERYTHING!! Really .. never thought in my wildest dreams we would spend that much on our wedding since we didn’t have a budget but yeah …. anyways the priciest but of course worth every pennny was the photographer and also the reception hall (althought everything was inclluded from the decorations to the food) … they both cost us more than 8000.00$ each!! WOW!

For me, it was the DJ, alterations and cleaning the dress afterwards!  The DJ cost me $1,000 more than I budgeted for and I spent $300 on cleaning my dress and that’s not including the preservation box.  I thought the dress cleaning would be no more than $100.  🙁

Absolutely everything was more expensive than I had anticipated. We had to triple our budget to accomodate everything we had planned on having.

I would say the biggest surprise was my veil. How can anyone in good faith charge over $700 for tulle and Swarovski crystals??? That and flowers…..it was so hard to leave them behind knowing how much they cost us.

CAKE AND PHOTOGRAPHER. O M G. $600 for a cake for $60 people??

Oh, and $3,000 for a 6 hour shoot?? I asked for no editing, no online uploading, no organization, no prints. JUST a flash drive and unedited photos. $3,000!!! No. Just… no. You are NOT allowed to make more than doctors and lawyers per hour. I don’t care how good you are. I did photography, I know what’s involved. NO.

Oh, and service charge is 20%. Also… wtf. lol

I haven’t checked with florists though, so that will probably be horrible as well.

I was shocked by the officiant cost, so we ended up having a family member officiated. I was also surprised by venue prices, most of which didn’t include ANYTHING. I think we paid $1800 for a building, and that was discounted, because it was a Sunday. Our original plan was backyard tent wedding, but tent rentals would’ve been the same.

Oh my god the catering. I actually got budget shamed by a caterer yesterday who thought $125 a person was just not going to happen. Ridiculous.

I actually got all of the ingredients for the side dishes at Walmart and made them all myself and bought the steaks and chicken breasts at Sam’s Club. (We had a 17 person wedding, including ourselves.) So, food was pretty cheap. We went through 3- 1.5 liter bottles of wine and had a little leftover.

Stamps really were a pain in the butt. I should have just bought a roll back then since I’ve been needing them constantly ever since, now that we’ve sent Thank you cards and Halloween cards to everyone and are already thinking about our Christmas cards (UGH!)

The rental company that we got out tables, chairs, linens, and tent from were pretty reasonable, but it was still more than I expected. We went with the cheapest of 3 companies and it was over $100 less than the most expensive (at $330).

The thing I was most shocked about was the cost of ring streching. When I got my band that we had ordered online, it was only a week to the wedding, so I wouldn’t have had time to send it back for free resizing, so I went to my local jewelry store to have it stretched out a 1/4 of a size…for $75!! I thought this was terribly insane, considering it was only a quarter of a size, and my ring is a simple 3mm milgrain edged ring with NO stones and they streched it in a machine and it didn’t even require adding extra metal!! Surely it could not have cost them that much to do it.
