Hey! So I am trying to start planning a little bit of the wedding while I have downtime from school but all I am doing is stressing myself out. We are very unfamiliar with the way weddings run as we have never actually even been to a wedding that has the ceremony and big reception with sit down meal like I am wanting. My mom mentioned getting a wedding planner would help but I am unsure that that is in our budget right now I will have to calculate things. The venue I am getting married at does alot of help with the planning process so I was wondering more about getting a day of coordinator. What did your day of coordinator help you do? How many times did y’all get to meet? ect.

My day of coordinator is wonderful. Even though she is day of we have unlimited emails so we actually talk all the time and I feel like she is a full time planner. We have met once in person. I ask her for referrals on venders, send her centerpiece ideas, etc. Her team will set up all decorations for the wedding, she will also manage the vendors on my wedding day and the timeline. Pretty much she will make sure everything runs smoothly. I highly suggest having one. Now not all day of coordinators are this involved but she is coming with me and my fiance on our next venue tour so she can see the layout to get a feel for how everything will be set up. I think I would be stressed on the actual wedding day without a day of coordinator.

My Day-of Coordinator saved my sanity and made the wedding day so easy and relaxed for all the guests. We met twice ahead of the wedding and emailed quite a bit. She was in touch with all the vendors and was able to keep track of their progress and make sure everything was going to plan before I arrived at the venue. She greeted the guests and made sure everyone knew where the ceremony area was, where the bathrooms were, etc. Guests were able to go to her for answers to their questions ahead of the wedding and on the day – so I didn’t have to deal with any drama.

- Wedding: October 2015 - Drury Lane Oakbrook
My wedding is in October and we have a DOC that we hired from Thumbtack. I highly reccomend that site for looking for a coordinator. It’s a lot of small businesses so they often cost less but are willing to do more. Ours is $800 total while most DOCs in our are are charging $1500 or more. Fiance and I did most of the planning ourselves with the help of The Knot checklists on their website. Our DOC is available via e-mail constantly and she gets back to us pretty quickly. I run ideas past her and have had her proofread invitations and talk me through the etiquette of addressing them. She also looks over all of our contracts before we sign them and makes sure to ask the tough questions we normally would not think of. She has contacted all of our major vendors and established that she will be their point of contact the day of. The week before the wedding she will also pick up all of our decor and make sure everything is set up for us both at the church and the reception. I have absolutely LOVED planning our wedding and am so happy we did all the planning ourselves, but I am looking forward to having her there the day of just so I can enjoy the day without worrying about logistics.

Having a DOC was the best decision I made! We met with her a week before the wedding for our actual planning meeting. We had been exchanging some emails back and forth about a month or so out. On the actual day of, she was wonderful! She directed our hair and makeup team to where I was getting ready.
The biggest thing though was that her and her team took care of all the setup of our DIY projects, with the exception of our LOVE background. I had grand plans of giving her potos of what I wanted things to look like but time just go away from me. It was great we dropped off all our bins for the locations Thursday night and then I didn’t think about it again.
So around 10 a.m. I walked over to the recetion area and showed her what I ideas I had for things and how centerpieces should be setup and that was it. When I walked into the reception it was even more perfect than I could’ve imagined! She took a ton of care and thought into helping execute the little details we had for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.
She took our vows and cards for the memory box ceremony and made sure our officiant had them ready for us. She also took care of coordinating the marriage certificate signing. She had our officiant sign it, Best Man and Maid/Matron of Honor then handed it to my groom before we left.
At the end of the night her team was invaluable. They cleaned up all of our DIYs and boxed them back up AND loaded everything into our van. They also made sure we had 2 plates of food in the fridge for us.
She was also my total peace of mind. There was some issues with the Ceremony music and someone called the Maid/Matron of Honor while I was standing there literally 10 minutes before we were supposed to leave. I was annoyed and clearly frustrated by the situation and she immediately took over and resolved it for us.
I’m sure there were other things she did to keep the flow going of the day adn things I’m forgetting but she was invaluable to our wedding day and I’d HIGHLY recommend hiring a DOC.
