I’m looking for any ideas to make sure I don’t get sick for the wedding. I just hate to think that I will have spent two years planning and spent all this money not to feel my best for the wedding. I’ve heard of brides spending their whole reception miserable or at the hospital. Yikes.
im pretty good when it comes to illness. I dont get sick half as much as I used to in the past. I used to get tonsillitis literally 6-7 times a year and have to take so much time off To recover. Actually that’s how my Fiance and i started dating. He rescued me from work when I could barely stand I was so sick, And the next week asked me out on a date 😛 I also used to catch stomach flu at the drop of a hat. Bleh!
Anyway, the reasons I’m concerned are because anytime my FILS are altogether, they catch the stomach flu! For example , last x Mas , everyone was intown and we all stayed in the same house (with one bathroom mind you’ and 18 of us) , and the 10 month old baby brought down like 90% of us. It literally ruined the holiday bc we were conStantly dealing with someone throwing up, wondering who was next. According to Future Sister-In-Law, this is a common occurrence when they all get together. I’m just nervous that tis will happen for the wedding And I feel like i want full disclosure from any family who was recently sick so I can avoid them. However, I know I can’t with all the wedding festivities in the week they are here. I know stomach flu isn’t so common in June, but literally every time they are here , it happens. I promise you this is no exaggeration.
im also worried about flu and colds, but I feel like I could probably make it through that no problem, even if I didn’t feel the greatest.
is there anyone here that can offer anything encouraging if they were sick on their day ? Or tips to avoid getting sick in the midst of all the last minute craziness? I know sleep is really important, any I feel like naps would help, but we have so many guests coming into town that I feel like I need to try and fit them in for visits before the wedding.
I already take vitamin D, probiotics, eat lot so of veggies and fruit, and exercise. I also plan on taking a week and a half before the wedding off work.
thanks for your help!!! 🙂

@brooke25: I drank Verves or Vemma shots. I drink them before I get on a plane too cause I used to always get sick from a plane ride.

@brooke25: Take vitimin C. If I feel like Im getting a cold I take two of these a day – http://www.puritan.com/puritans-pride-brand-0102/vitamin-c-1000-mg-with-bioflavonoids-001410?scid=27732 – and I never really get sick. Maybe a runny nose but never sick enough to call in to work. (I have to fake a cough when I do that).

@brooke25: Tbh, I stressed about not getting sick and ended up getting slightly sick anyways. It was probably the stress…so do whatever you can to avoid stress.

- Wedding: September 2014 - Turf Valley
Oh gosh, this didn’t occur to me as a potential issue until I read the title of this thread. Noooo!!
I stay away from people who cough, love to take multi-vitamins, and I drink OJ like it’s going out of style. Somehow I manage to pick up a sinus infection once a season, though. Blah.

Hand sanitizer and lots of water.

Two words: Neti Pot
It’s just a sinus irrigation system and it sounds absolutely disgusting, I know, the first time it doesn’t feel pleasent, but trust me it has saved me a few times and always makes my colds disappear faster.
I also take zinc, make sure I floss EVERY day, a probiotic, multivitamin and drink lots of water. Also, North American Ginsing is the same as Cold FX but usually cheaper.

I didn’t do too much beyond what I do normally. I wash my hands as soon as I get home, I use hand sanitizer when I’m out if hand washing isn’t convienent (esp. after looking at a menu) and I avoid sick people.
Before the wedding I also avoided foods I know I have an intolerance to and avoided pain meds as much as possible so that they would work better for me at the wedding.

We got married over Christmas Holidays for a Destination Wedding
So in the winter… and away in the Sunshine.
As a Canadian yourself, which if you’ve ever been a snowbird, you know sets up the right conditions to get sick either going away or upon return.
We did as much as we could beforehand…
- We got our Annual Flu Shot
- And took our Vitamins
- And tried to eat well in the Days & Weeks beforehand
Still tho we both ended up with a cold on our Pre-Wedding Trip (the weather was unseasonably cold & damp in the Deep South). With just a few days to go, and enterring the warmth of Florida we decided to ramp up our efforts to shed the cold..
We continued to take our Vitamins & Eat Well… and worked harder to get a good night’s sleep.
We also Drank more liquids (Water – OJ – Hot Tea) – Added in some extra Vitamin C – Omegas (Fish Oil) – we also had some Chicken Soup – and took Echinacea.
Within 2 Days we had pretty much broke the Cold, and arrived in our Wedding Destination.
Mr TTR & I tend to travel with the OTC Drugs I’ve listed above … because it sucks to be sick when you are vacation.
Many of the above items, will cause you no harm. So I would say that can make a good plan of defence as well.
Hope this helps,

sweet ! I’ve tried those saline and water sprays , I think called Hydrasense ? and those have not worked for me, but i am seriously looking to invest in a netI pot. I also take probiotics, oregano oil and vitamin d. I’m definitely going to stock up on zinc!
I’m just gonna ask the SIL who is primarily responsible for bringing the illnesses , for full disclosure. Basically if her or the kids have been sick especially with stomach flu in the last week before flying in , I’m gonna keep as much distance as possible till the wedding. Not that I can avoid them completely, but ya know. I didn’t spent two years engaged plus 10K to be that kinda sick on the day. You do t control timing During stomach flu, it controls you, if you knw what I mean lol
everyone is comng for a visit February, so maybe everyone will get it out of their systems then lol. Awful to say but better then than at the wedding considering they are all in the wedding party 😛
tha is for the suggestions!

@This Time Round: lol In my case, I guess I also avoided the flu shot and the fish oil pills. Those could cause me serious harm!

@brooke25: Hydrasense came out with a new thing, it can be used upside down like a netti pot, or right side up like their other sprays. I prefer it to the netti pots!

@This Time Round: thank ya! So glad everything worked out for your big day and you guys ended up recovering in the nick of time! 🙂

@AB Bride: thanks!
I’ll have to check that out For sure!
No flu shot for me either. I usually do pretty good without one 🙂
