I would say I got him both. I bought him a nice gift and I planned a party for him. He had a great night out drinking with his friends.

I got my Fiance an immersion circulator because he’s a food nerd and wanted to try cooking sous vide. He uses it twice a week now.

I also took him out to dinner with his friends.

On my fiance’s last birthday I got us a couples massage followed by endless tapas at the spa we were at. I also bought him an ipad 2, which I turned over to the spa the day before and it was on the table when we went up for tapas.

We go a little overboard on holidays though. We’re working on reigning it in a little…

Got him a bunch of nice shirts and sweaters from Marshall’s, but also took him out to dinner.

I bought him a really nice wool coat and a few shirts. I also bought him the My Pillow (yes the informercial one) because he has been talking about this stupid pillow forever but wouldn’t buy it because it was too expensive (it was like $80 for this pillow). And then I’m going to take him out of his favorite steakhouse.  I don’t usually spend this much but it’s his 30th so I splurged a little.

we were just talking about this last night.

My birthday was monday, and “for some reason” my present didn’t come in time. Then he expalined that it was something for both of us. He ALWAYS does that! He bought me hockey tickets for chanukah…which I’m excited for, but it’s clearly for him. Then I told him that I’d really prefer tangible gifts from now on…and that I expect gifts on my bday every year. LOL I know I sound like an uber bitch, but I always buy him nice gifts, and I get SQUAT…it’s time for him to know that I’m more selfish than I let on (and the diamond ring thing will only get him so far).

His birthday is next week and we’re going on our honeymoon the week after, so I bought him 2 new bathing suits, 2 t-shirts, and I’ll probably get him some flipflops, and maybe a backpack. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s a good gift and not something he’d buy himself (He’d still wear his ONE bathing suit from 2005 if it were up to him).

I think object AND experience… some people feel that if you get them an experience that you do with them, it’s not a legitimate present because you get to benefit from the experience too, whereas an object is all about that person.
