Morning everyone! Can I ask for some of your great advice?
My fiance’a birthday is coming up – his first since we got engaged. My birthday was shortly after and he seriously went above and beyond. I am terrible at buying gifts for men, and for our last anniversary I just got him some shirts. They were really fashionable and his style, but come on, I got him shirts.
Please help me plan something better than that! Could you share bday gifts you’ve given when engaged that were very well received? I reallllllyyy need some suggestions and help.

Nontra: My fiance’s birthday is a couple weeks before Christmas so I really have to break things up so he gets nice gifts on both days. This year I’m taking him to see a hockey game (Toronto Maple Leafs vs Detroit Red Wings… His fav team is Detroit). He nearly lost his shit when I told him lol. I’m also getting him a personalized jersey that I’ll give him the day of.
Are there any sports that your fiance likes to watch or participate in? Another gift idea I had were golf clubs or a gift card to a golf course he likes.

Hmm…he’s not super into sports. Too bad, because your ideas are really good.
He is really into music, so I could see if there are any relevant upcoming concerts. He also loves playing his guitar, so maybe there is something that would fit with that? He also really likes craft beer, so I could look into a beer making kit.
He he did find a watch that he likes but already picked it out and asked his parents for it, so it would be a little lame for me to offer to buy it right?
any other thoughts and success stories??

Nontra: It wasn’t for a birthday, but I got my Fiance a nice record player and about 250 classic rock records for our anniversary. He absolutely loved it and still does. I found it on craigslist for like $150, deal of the century, the guy just wanted to get rid of it all quick.
For FIs birthday, I’m getting him the Kinekt gear ring, it’s actually supposed to be deliverd today.
He has ADD and likes to fidget, so this allows him to fidget with the ring. He’s also a gear head and really into cars, so the design appeals to him as well.
In the past, I’ve also got him several pairs of custom cufflinks (he dresses up for work) that represent things that he likes.

Nontra: Darling Husband turned 30 this year, so I wanted to do something big! To throw him off, I got him a gift that he could actually open which was an electric drill with bits set. He always has to borrow his dad’s, so I got him his own.
Then the big thing was throwing him a surprise party with all of his closest friends and family. He never had a surprise party, and I wanted him to have that “its all about him” moment. That was my favorite thing that happened this year. He was so overwhelmed with emotions and happy, he couldn’t believe I pulled it off!

My fiances birthday is in two days. He really enjoys wood working and there was a certain tool that he’d been wanting, but didn’t buy himself, so I got him that, as well as a sizeable gift card for any supplies he may need. I also made reservations to take him and 10 of his friends on a brewery tour this weekend that includes a beer tasting and dinner.

Really great ideas, thank you! I’d love to hear even more.

Nontra: If he’s into music I would totally go with a concert! Outtings are great gifts! My Fiance sucks with physical gifts, but his adventure gifts rock.
For my FIs birthday this year I got some funny shirts made for him. He loves them and loves that people alwasy comment on them.
He’s also an avid fisherman so I got him $50+ of new jigs and spoons/other fishing things. It’s stuff he’ll need, and use, but wouldn’t necessarily buy for himself. He loved it all. 🙂

i got the Fiance a cooking class that we both attended. Fiance and I make dinner together very often and we enjoy trying new recipes so the present fits his interest.
Since the class was a couple weeks after his actual birthday I left notes around the house every Monday with hints, or what he should wear, and what time he needs to be ready on that day.

Darling Husband loves craft beer too – there are a few variations of a craft beer advent calendar out right now, and I get him one every year which he loves. If you can’t find the actual calendar, how about making your own? Pick out 24 craft beers, put them into a cardboard box, and make little doors with numbers on them so he can pull them out each day.

I got him two cheap books and a rubber egg.

Nontra: A new work bag/briefcase and a very nice, hard to get bottle of wine (FI works in wine and it’s something he’s passionate about). A few years before that I got him a wine fridge.

Good suggestions! I can’t help but feel like the guys have it easier – some nice jewelry, a fun experience, and we are usually happy 🙂

I’ve bought him a solar backpack before from Birksun (he can charge camera/phone with it). He loves gadgets, so he really liked this one.
I looked into ManCrates because they have some super cute ones (bbq stuff, beer things, whiskey, outdoor survival and more), but couldn’t find the perfect one.

Ryansgirl: I love the craft beer advent calendar idea! I think I may do that! My FI’s birthday is in December and we’re getting married on Christmas, so it would be a great wedding countdown as well!
