@Kandiss16:  I hear you re: accounting – I’ve been doing it since 2005 not counting my internships during college, and I want OUT bad. It is so soul-sucking.

I majored in Accounting (Hey, it does pay the bills!) and am currently getting a Masters in Taxation. As I am working in accounting, my undergrad transferred to my job. I also have a CPA, which I could not have without my undergrad and advanced degree. I plan to use my Taxation Masters when I open up my own business – just not sure in what yet.

BBA in Accounting and MSA in accounting.  I have my cpa but dont work as a public accountant but rather as an accounting maanger at a real estate development company so I use what I learned in my major alot.

School was a little boring – trust me learning about accounting is no fun and not alot of it makes sense til you put it to use but I like my job for the most part.

Business Management. It’s useful and can help me in my career. I’ve found experience is the most important factor at work, even over a degree.

B.A. Government.  Worked for an elected official for 4 years and now working in PR, but more Public Affairs, so my background applies.  I also wanted to go this direction after school though.

@ArtDecoDC:  I worked at the Capitol for the last 2 years, but on the House side!  Great gig and I miss wandering about the Capitol!

I had such a hard time deciding on a college major. I started in Computer Engineering, switched to International Business, then switched again and ended up double majoring. BS in Chemistry (Pre Med) and a BS in Public Relations w/a concentration in crisis management.

Even during my senior year of college I never felt particularly drawn to anything. I was always waiting for that a-ha moment where I would just know what I wanted to do. Never happened.

I don’t use my science background at all. I was good at science, but other than possibly going to med school I never had an interest in working in the field. I also never wanted to work in PR, but I knew it was a vague enough area of study that would be applicable to many different fields. I’m an Investigative Analyst for the fed govt and I use a lot of the analytical techniques and crisis management approaches that I studied in college, but I wouldn’t say my major is directly related to what I do now. My agency taught me everything I need to know and how they want me to think.

BS Criminal Justice, finishing my MHRLR in Human Resources in December.  I think they are related, HR deals a lot with the law, and Criminal Justice dealt a lot with human behavior.  And yes, I am working in HR (well, an internship for now!) but also have prior experience in the industry before receiving either of my degrees.

@maloussii:  My B.S. will be in Economics. I’m undecided about grad school. I want to go, but I just don’t know when. I’ll more than likely get my M.S. in Economics as well, and maybe even a PhD. I don’t graduate until spring, so I can’t say anything else, haha. But my boyfriend’s sister got her master’s in English/Literature, and now she’s an adjunct professor at a communit college teaching students in dual enrollment. Definitely not the best job, and not really where she wants to be.

I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture.

I do not work in my field… After a little bit of soul searching and the WRONG JOB (also not in Larch, just a job for the time being) I discovered that I had cultivated a love of fundraising and development through the college part time job I had.

Good thing “fundraising” isn’t exactly a degree, and my experience was what my employer went by, because I LOVE MY JOB!
