my parents gave us 5k, his parents did the rehearsal dinner and bought our plane tickets for our honeymoon.

our total cost for the wedding was around 13k-14k (so we paid around 9k ourselves).

we saved for a year.

Our parents contributed 0.00 – we’re footing the bill ourselves.

Between both sets of parents we are receiving $20k… which we are EXTREMELY thankful for as Fiance got laid off in November and we would not be able to afford the wedding without them.

I’m not sure what FI’s family is contributing or if they are planning to contribute at all. His parents are divorced.I’m pretty sure his father will pay for the rehearsal dinner as he has asked a couple times if we’ve settled on a restaurant to have it at. His Mom hasn’t mentioned helping out with anything yet and that’s cool. It’s our wedding, of course we will accept all the help we can get but I don’t expect anyone to chip in.

My Mom – 6-7K

My sister – 2k

Our total budget is between 40k-45k. We will be saving like crazy over the next year.

Both of our parents are divorced (with Dads gone completely and Moms haven’t remarried) unfortunately so we each just have our Moms contributing. We are so thankful that his Mom has offered to pay for the entire reception as a gift to us and my Mom can’t afford much so she bought us a dinnerware set, me lingerie for the wedding night, and she also plans to give us a little spending money for our honeymoon.

His parents paid for the rehearsal dinner.  Mine paid for random things.  We paid for everything ourselves.  But then my parents gifted us with a bunch and his gifted us with a nice small sum too.  Sometimes they gift afterwards.  We are really happy b/c this has meant a nice nest egg for us that we didn’t spend on the wedding.

my grand parents: 2000

fi’s parents: 3700 + 700 = 4400 (honeymoon and rehearsal dinner)

my mom and stepdad: 850 + 500 + 800 = 2150 (my dress, cake, n 1/2 the venue)

my mom also payed for alot of the things for my diy invites and all the postage for them… so thats another 450 at least… and my jewelry and veil so thats about 400…

total from family = about 9400 🙂 im so grateful for all of that.

and fi and i are covering the rest which only comes to around 7500

My dad has offered to contribute like $500, which we appriciate but doesnt but a dent in the 24k this event is going to cost. His parents and my mom have not said anything yet, and we are not expecting anything. But we planned on paying for it ourselves anyway so no problem.

My parents = $15k  (but the final tally on our wedding was $6600.  The rest we put into savings)

His parents = $0 towards the wedding itself, however since there are 7 people in his family besides him, and they had to fly to California from the Netherlands, rent a house for 2 weeks, and a car, I considered that well matched to my parents gift!  It meant a lot to both of us to have them all here for the wedding.

My parents: $40K

His parents: $5K (rehearsal dinner & morning after breakfast)

Us: $3K (miscellaneous “above and beyond” things we wanted that we didn’t feel my parents should have to pay for)
