So Fiance and I are a year out, woohoo! We are going to send save the dates in January or February but want to start getting addresses from friends. We’re going to use Postable (which is awesome) but not sure what to say in the context of the email. Do we say when we’re getting married or simply say we need addresses for future save the dates? Well only ask those were sure are on the invite list but I just don’t know what to say! We’re havinv a super formal wedding so such an email seems really informal…

All we did was email family and friends and say “We are updating our address book– can you send us your current mailing address? Thanks!”

We’re getting addresses together for when we send out our save the dates and wedding invitations. Can we have your address?

I would recommend saying something like PP said. “We are updating our address book” will get you the addresses you need but it doesn’t specifically say why you need them. Of course you plan on inviting all of these people to your wedding, but things happen, budgets change, couples break up (not you and your Fiance, but if you’re friends with a couple that breaks up and you end up staying friends with only one person from that couple), friends have falling outs or just lose touch… I kinda feel like if you mention it’s for the wedding you are obligated to invite everyone that you contact about addresses. So not mentioning its for the wedding gives you some wiggle room.
