I voted for “Reception” because it’s what we’re spending the most on, but I’d say we splurged on both the reception and photography.

To be fair, we factored these “splurges” into our budget, so we’re not in trouble money-wise. We just had to make decisions about what was worth the splurge. I fell in love with our reception venue and the photos will last FOREVER, so they seemed like “appropriate splurges” (if there is such a thing!). However, to make up for those splurges, we’re “scrimping” on things like favors and invites (we’re going to attempt to design/print/assemble them ourselves).

We splurged more on food and videographer. Our rehearsal dinner is also more expensive than we had originally planned. Lastly, I didn’t originally budget for it, but I’m doing a boudoir session. =P

We splurged on our wedding bands… it was the only thing we have gone over budget for.  Both Fiance and I fell in love with wedding bands outside our price range, and couldn”t get them off our minds, no matter how many other ones we looked at.  In the end, we figured it was one thing that we will have for the rest of our lives, so if we were going to splurge, it was probably the smartest place to do it!! We ended up being 1200 over our budget on the combined total of our rings… but I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!

My dress.  But I tried it on and couldn’t imagine getting married in anything else.

Well, my budget is really low so splurging for me is just going over budget (which my budget for most things is waaay lower than  average). But I ahve to say my splurge was my ring set. I originally planned to use my ering for my wedding band too and just use it, but found out that I won’t have a warranty on it anymore. I also have always wanted black diamonds and found a set that is amazing and an awesome deal. But it was $700, when my bidget was zero. So thats my big splurge, but since I will be wearing it the rest of my life I feel its justified.

Oh. I also budgeted $189 (before alterations) for my dress, and paid $299 (before alterations). I guess my entire ensemble is over budget-lol!

Well, I did splurge on the venue, which set me back 4,000 US Dollars for the rent only. But in my country, it is custom to celebrate huge weddings with 400 guests, gala reception, including open bar. I am also DIYing my own brooch bouquet, and the whole thing is costing me quite a lot.

Totally the venue! We both felt like we needed a really cool place to get married. We rented out a 1926 ballroom in a historic hotel downtown. It’s GORGEOUS, and solidly half of out budget. lol

Everything was over budget except our invites, flowers, and cake. But I’d have to say our biggest splurge was music. We hired one of the top DJ’s in the business who was $2,500 and the got a Caribbean steel drum band for cocktail hour for $700.

We’re gonna splurge on the HOUSE we buy *grin* so the wedding is going to be modest all around to redirect the cash there. I am DIYing alot of things (all decor, etc.), going creative on others (reception in an ornate but affordable ethnic restaurant) but what I will pay “going rate” for is photography. Its the only part of the event that will last more than a few hours…
